Ok....here goes with my first installment.....
Tried to have a lie in this morning but my eyes popped wide open at stupid o’clock. :bugeye: I tried to force my eyelids back down but……I WAS GOING TO FLORIDA TODAY and no matter how hard I tried, my mind was already with Mickey and there was no way I was going to get any more sleep. I looked across at DH and he was still asleep…didn’t he know it was today we were going? Do I accidentally wake him or let him lie until I start singing M-I-C-K-E-Y-M-O-U-S-E, Mickey Mouse and Diane, Mickey Mouse and Diane…. :mickeybounce::angel:
I just don’t know how I’m going to fill in the time this morning. Our cases are all packed and by the front door. The car is full of petrol. I decide to pop online and chat to a few pals here….and watch the clock. :clockwatch:
1.30pm finally gets here and we can check in online. I was a little nervous that something would go wrong here as we’ve never done online check in before. However, it all went smoothly and by 2pm, we were on our way. I waved goodbye to a neighbour with a look on my face that said “I’ll miss you” but I was bursting with excitement inside and could barely sit still in the car. :excited001:
The journey to Manchester airport should have taken about 3 hours but, we got stuck in traffic….as in a standstill for nearly two hours. It also rained heavily from us starting out to arriving at the car park. It was quite funny at one stage of the journey (but don’t tell DH I said that) when the satnav had us going around in circles. DH changed from the female voice to the male voice and hey presto…he took us the correct way!
We parked in T2 multi-storey car park at Manchester airport. Making a mental note of where we left the car, we followed signs for the SAS Radisson Hotel where we would be spending the night. It was only a two minute walk through a covered walkway.
While checking in at reception, the manager came along and shook our hands and asked about our plans etc. He was a really nice guy and made us feel very welcome. I had booked the Celebration package as a treat for us tonight but, thinking about it afterwards, I wouldn’t do this again. We simply didn’t make enough use of the package to justify the cost.
Our room was lovely and I had my request of a runway view (thanks for that tip Shogun) We had champagne and strawberries awaiting us which we decide to keep for after dinner. There were also white dressing gowns and new slippers on the bed.
The meal with the package was at the hotel restaurant Phileas Fogg. Now, when I booked the Celebration package it said we could have a three course meal from here. I checked out the menu and there were actually three courses which I would choose. (I am a very basic and picky eater) However, when we got there, it was a separate, smaller choice menu. DH was fine as he will eat almost anything. This restaurant also offers a runway view and we were given a window table. There was nothing I would eat as a starter so I ordered something for DH….he ended up with duck pate and spicy pepper soup. We both ordered the pork but I asked for a plain piece with mash instead of couscous. This was actually quite nice. Then, DH had the cheeseboard and I opted for the chocolate tart but it was too bitter for me.
Back at our room, we filled out a form for room service breakfast which was also part of the package. We ….erm, I ate the chocolate covered strawberries and we both had a taste of the champagne before settling down for our last sleep in the UK before jetting off to Florida in the morning. :champers2:
