Rumours on the internet suggest that changes to the Mexican pavilion are in the early planning stage. Apparently the feeling is that another table service location is needed to cope with the dining plan

-The old Cantina building on the Lagoon will be torn down, and a new 2-story building built in the same place. It will be a Table Service location, with a menu and price-point similar to the current San Angel Inn inside the pavilion.
-The current San Angel Inn will become an upscale (perhaps Signature?) restaurant like Jiko and Maya Grill.
-The jewelry shop will relocate within the pavilion, and what is currently the jewelry shop will become a fajita & tequilla bar. (I recall that there's been talk of the tequilla bar inside the pavilion for a long time)

Wow. I don't dine in Mexico, but the Cantina is a real guest favorite. I can't imagine losing that will go over well. :sigh:

On the other hand, a fajita shop sounds kind of neat.

Obviously, they want the prime lagoon site for the TS restaurant. :sigh:

Assuming it happens, of course! :)

hmmm, wouldn't have thought too many $$ would have been spent in the current economic climate - seems their current strategy is to shut things not redevelop them

this is true, but the last few times we've been there have been signs up in EPCOT saying "no table service locations have any free tables today".. You know how much Disney hate to lose $s

Im sure they'd replace all the rides with restaurants if they thought they could fill them

But then there would be no gift shop at the exit :D

The Mercado? In EPCOT? What are you talking about? The shopping area inside the pyramid?

Seems like WDW is focused more on the pricier table service restaurants than the counter service ones. :sigh:

All well and good if they can (and most likely will) carry it off, but it leaves the folks who like counter service short on options. :sigh:

Yes the lovely shopping area with all those craft stalls and the baskets round the fountain. That must stay.

Ah gotcha. I was flashing on the old Mercado on I Drive! LOL.

Not sure if it's going to be the same or not. I've never bought anything there... kinda boring stuff, and the same old, same old for years. :sigh:

 We bought a beautiful blanket from there 5 years ago and it's still perfect.
