Can only speak for my DW and I (and perhaps Slowhand and his DW... Terry... Oh Terry... where are you). When we do formal night, we do formal night. She in her gown and I in my tux. Makes us feel like the we're in the midst of the heyday of classical ship travel. To us, that's half the fun of it.

However, having said all that, I think that we're in the minority.
There are quite a few people who are not so strict. Nice dinner dresses for the ladies and suits for the guys.

You will find that most of the guests make a bit of effort to dress smart on the formal evenings.
Many [like myself] give my tuxedo an airing, whilst many of the other gents at least don a jacket, usually with a nice shirt and tie.
It`s also a good occasion for the ladies to dig out their posh frocks!

You can rent tuxedos through DCL . The rental company will deliver it to the ship . Your steward will place it in your closet and pick up after formal and semi formal is over . You get two shirts . Jim wore his twice and it was cheap $89.00 plus tax .
This time around Jim is taking his Giorgio Armani suit with two shirts .
I'll search for the link .

Oh all right! :worship:

It's not one of Terry and I (stunning fellows that we are) nor is it formal night from the most recent cruise.

It is however, semi-formal night from our 2003 cruise. We were celebrating my DW's retirement. After 30 years of teaching kindergarten, she deserved a break!

Tom (who could do with a break, himself)

Please! :jawdrop:

Take note of the fact that there is a desert cake sitting in front of us. The implications of this are that we've actually finished our meal and I didn't spill a single drop of anything on my stunningly white tuxedo jacket!

Of course, the other possibility is that I didn't eat anything and just sat there looking pretty! :laugh2:

You all look fabulous!

Since formal attire no longer is part of my regular wardrobe (had an extensive collection at one time!), I suggest a long skirt and special top for women if they won't be wearing a formal gown any time soon. I have two long black skirts (one gored, one straight) and mix and match tops, jackets and accessories with them. The good thing is everything can be separated, remixed and worn throughout the year.

But if you really want a formal gown or can use it for other occasions, go for it! :D

Absolutely not! No offense at all. I rather took it as a compliment. And lord knows, I don't get many of those anymore so I'll take them where I can get them (or where I perceive that I've gotten them).
