View Full Version : Hospital again

16-03-2009, 06:51 PM
Hi guys sorry i've not been around for a few days but i've been having a lot of chest pains and ended up in hospital today having tests and scans for a suspected blood clot.

I saw the practice nurse this morning and she sent me straight over to the Medical Assessment Unit who were waiting for me.
I was struggling to breathe as the pain under my ribs was so painful. My blood pressure was quite low and they took my other obs as soon as i got there.
I had a chest X ray,an ECG (with a rather nice Naval Doctor),blood tests then had to wait until 3pm for a scan.
They couldn't find any signs of any blockage but i'm still in a lot of pain.
They have put me on antibiotics in case i have an infection and given me more painkillers.

It was a big shock and a very stressful and upsetting day as the kids had gone to school and i knew i wouldn't be back for them.
All day i kept thinking 'carpe diem' as i had loads of time waiting and thinking.

We are certainly going to making the most of our holiday in August ,today really made me think what might have been.

They don't know what it is.
They are treating it as infection but were very concerned as i am 6 weeks post op.
I have anti inflamatories, painkillers and antibiotics and got to take it easy again.
Could even be a pulled muscle-not that i've done anything to get one.

I can't breathe in deeply as it really hurts and i am in agony if i sneeze, cough, burp or have hiccups.
It's really scary as my breathing is really shallow and fast and it sounds like i'm out of breath all the time.

Couldn't sleep last night as i couldn't get comfy so i'm going to have a bath and an early night tonight.

After my car wouldn't start on Saturday da came up and got it running yeasterday so i took myslef off to the docs this morning as my parents ahve done everything for 6 weeks.
I was so scared at the surgery when the nurse phoned the hospital and got my notes together.
I went straight to Mum and Dads and Mum took me over and stayed with me all day.
I managed to get a message to Robyn at school as i wasn't going to be home when they got there.
Got back to Mum's at 5.30 to find that Dad had cleaned my car inside and out to take his mind off it all while i was in.Bless him.

I really don't know how i would have managed in the last few weeks.
Was very tearful when i got home and i'm feeling really tired.

17-03-2009, 08:12 AM
oh sweetie. I know that feeling sooo well.

Rest up, I am finding soaking in a bath helps, heat on the area is helpful. There are lots of possibilities for the pain. So try not to worry too much.

If you need a sympathetic ear, phone me, and we can puff and pant through our pain together lol. What a coincidence though that we both have similar complaints though.... hmmmmmm.

(just so you know, they took me off the high dose steroid inhalers, back to the becotide and salbutamol, and in rolls tramadol for the pain.....) I was counting the drawing pin holes in my walls at 4am lol.

Hang in there babe.

You should have seen my face when he walked into the room and said he was going to do my ECG.

My first thought was i wish i'd shaved my legs and put some make up on!

This is one of those times when I wish our virtual community was a little closer physically! Glad your parents are there for you, Teresa. :) And love the way you helped minimize Jack's fears for Mum with the radioactivity story! :D

My mother used to have occasional bouts with something called pleurisy--symptoms similar to yours. Had to look it up on Wikipedia to see what it actually is--all I could remember was the pain and shortness of breath. Now that I'm thinking about it, it seems to be related to when she had periods of enforced inactivity--surgery, injury, etc.

I couldn't get the link to work, but the path is below. I just read the basic description and certainly wouldn't consider any information to be a comprehensive or absolutely accurate source of medical information, but it might be a possibility if the doctors rule everything else out and the pain persists.

I have the feeling that it's one of those things modern doctors often don't think about.

What ever is causing your pain, I hope it ceases and desists soon and you feel better! :hug2:

Edited to add:

Wouldn't you know? The link finally decided to work!

17-03-2009, 05:44 PM
Glad your home in one piece and feeling better today. It aint pleasant when dr's are poking and prodding (even if they are yummy looking!)

Try sleeping on your back tonight, years ago I had a chest infection and my ribs and chest were hurting because when I took a breathe my inflamed chest would be crushed by my ribs, sleeping on my back helped because my chest wouldn't raise high enough to hit my ribs. Very happy to hear there are no blood clots found though.

Take care and get some kip tonight.
