It may jusy be me having a blonde day or maybe i just don't get it but i'm trying to get my head round booking our Disney stay for August.

Today i could book POP for 10 nights through the UK Disney site for £520

Today on the US website i could book the same for $923 (£659 at a rate of 1.4 $ to the £)

To qualify for the free dining this year we have to book through the US site as we already have 5 day tickets.
This means we have to buy at least a 1 day ticket for ech of us.
Looking at the US site this is going to cost $1489.22 (£1063) for the 10 days stay as they are charging $186.39 (£133) per one day ticket.I know that the on the gate price is roughly $80 so i don't understand.

This means that the 'free dining' will actually cost an extra £139 for the hotel and an extra £400 for the 1 day tickets to qualify for dining.

So an extra £539 to get free dining and an extra day.

I'm probably getting it all wrong somewhere as my head is spinning but this seems and awful lot.
I'm sure it wouldn't cost us that much to pay OOP and for an extra days park ticket so where am i going wrong?

I know the exchange rate is making a huge difference but if i'm going to have to pay that much for an extra day's park ticket to get the free dining i'm wondering if it's worth it.

Beccaberry
01-03-2009, 02:54 PM
excellent idea.

Siobhan...we're going to need more vodka over here. Scratch the goat, but I'm think I'm going to need an abacus. I'd say two, but I'm not sure what the plural from of abacus is....abacai?

Dizneyblonde
01-03-2009, 02:55 PM
I'll put the kettle on then!

Beccaberry

Excellent!

I'll have a kitchen sink while we wait on Siobhan if that's not too much trouble?

Dizneyblonde

Val is ill at the mo and i couldn't get hold of her when i tried over the RPR booking so i just booked it.

I know the free dining offer (if there is one) will not be announced for a few weeks yet but i was trying to cost things up.

Call me impatient but i want to plan while i'm off!

Getting the DP will very much dictate what ADR's we do too as i don't fancy paying OOP for all the one's we have on our list!

Ok no use to you I'm sure as I dont have a calculator but I'm sure dining plans cost a loooooot of $$$$$$, sure that will be the way to go.

Hope the xchange rate improves hun then its not an issue :D

No wonder I couldn't sleep! All this math talk and goat sacrifices going on!

Teresa, give me your dates and I will see what the cost is through the US site. I don't know a thing about the specials via the UK site. It may very well be cheaper to book through them.

Have you not noticed my countdown timer

Only for certain people would I even consider going to Disney in AUGUST!!! I'm also bringing my best friend and daughter with me too :D

Dizneyblonde

Thanks Johnie the reason we can't book through the UK site to get free dining is because we already have park tickets(length of stay tickets have to be purchased to qualify) and obviously there are no offers on now.

What i was trying to find out was the approximate cost of booking through the US site plus the 1 day base ticket we need to have to qualify for free dining if and when it is announced.
However it looks like they are charging way over the gate price as a penalty for just buying a days ticket.

My thinking is that it may be cheaper to just book POP in £ and pay for meals and the odd TS meal we want to do.

Are you all as confused as me?

Anyway it's for 1 adult,a 15 yr old and a 13 yr old.
POP for 10 nights
21st - 31st August.

Thankyou.

But I'm only getting the one day ticket with mine and still have to buy my park hopper when I get there and the cost for the one day ticket wasn't anywhere near that much money.

That is why i'm confused Dorothy!

ok the TA site is showing Pop Century, standard room, for 1 adult, 2 teens from Aug 21st to 31st with 1 day MYW ticket for a total of $1169.69.

Is that with free dining though?

Johnie

Free dining is not offered yet. That is rack rate. Tickets about $80 each, and the room is about $93 a night.

When i get a quote from the US Disney site it's nearly $1500!

That sounds more like it and i assume if free dining was offered the price should stay pretty much the same.

Johnie

Yep, it will be rack rate for the hotel and then the price of the 1 day ticket.

Dorothy
01-03-2009, 07:36 PM
So if you have the reservation already then when free dining is annouced then you can just add the FD to it?

Johnie
01-03-2009, 07:44 PM
ok I went to the regular Disney World site here in the US and put in the same stuff and got the same thing.

When you were doing your quote, did you remove the park hopper and water park options from the ticket?

Johnie
01-03-2009, 07:46 PM

yes

Ok when I leave the info the same but keep the park hopper and water park option on the 1 day tickets, it is $1489.22

That'll be it then!

Didn't see the option to take those off.

Is the $93 a night including tax?

Johnie
01-03-2009, 07:52 PM
Yeah the whole quote includes the tax

Dizneyblonde
01-03-2009, 08:09 PM
Thank you hunni it makes more sense now!

Although it's going to cost a lot more than i had originally budgeted for due to the change in exchange rate!

So now looking at it if we book through UK it costs £520 plus $240 for the extra day ticket(we need this whether we get free dining or not as 5 days will not be enough)
Approx cost £691

US is $1169.69 which is roughly £835 and could include free dining if it's offered.

So if all the above is correct at the current exchange rate and free dining was offered it would cost us an extra £144 to book in $.
Does that make sense to anyone?

It does me and i'm a bit happier now

I just hope free dining gets offered :)

Dorothy

Isn't the FD usually offered the first week of April?
