Okay so I have 2 questions.

1. Anyone have the ipod shuffle (just prior to this new long version)? If so what do you think about it?? I am thinking of my one for my aunt. She needs something simple and easy to use.

2. Can one use Itunes with other devices? So for example, I decide to buy a different brand of mp3 player. Could my aunt us that device and Itunes?

Thanks guys!

Okay, 2 attempts at answers:

1. I don't. Mine's a regular sized iPod. But I know quite a few people who do. The people I know who have the shuffle (the old one, not the new one) love them. Very easy to use and completely adequate for their needs.

2. There's ways to make this kind of thing work, at least with the newer iTunes music (the songs that don't have DRM). It's not easy for someone with limited technical skills. If your aunt's iTunes music library is full of the older DRM protected music however, you're out of luck. That music will only sync and work with an iPod.

Hope this helps!

Thank you. :D
Okay, so it seems for her abilities and needs the ipod might be the best route. I don't want to buy her something that she can't use.

Sounds like it. If she's got iTunes (or you can download it for free), then with an iPod (shuffle or otherwise) it's all plug and play.

Tom (:macwave:... digital music.... ain't technology cool!)

Yes, I have just taught her how to download itunes a few weeks ago. She's a cd girl all the way. I know with my knowledge of itunes (i have a nano) I can walk her through uploading cds even from several states away. :D

I seriously love my shuffle Billie..its simple compact it clips to me..i have the 2 gig and I think it holds about 500 songs..I dont know Ive got about 12 hours worth of music on there now..Im the type of person who uploads random stuff and every few weeks then i wipe it clean and start all over. I dont 'need" to keep all my music on one device..

Glad to hear it, really. I think I'm going to get one for her. The clip version. Hmmm, I wonder if they will be dramatically discounted now that the new shuffles are out there?

I got my mum an ipod shuffle and she loved it. It was great until she lost it on holiday :(

She had the blue clippy one and the clip was just really handy.

The prices right now seem to be holding steady. Not sure if I should get it now or wait a little to see if they are going to go on sale. I'm not sure if putting older models on sale is standard or if they just disappear one day (leaving only the new models)

Typically, they just disappear. For instance, the only iPod Shuffle in the Apple Store now is the new one. The old one has disappeared.

However, there seems to be plenty of them on eBay now (the old ones). Pretty reasonable prices also. Here's a 2nd Generation Shuffle (http://cgi.ebay.com/Apple-iPod-shuffle-Blue-Brand-New-w-Warranty_W0QQitemZ270358168295QQcmdZViewItemQQptZO ther_MP3_Players?hash=item270358168295&_trksid=p4295.c0.m299&_trkparms=240%3A1318#ht_677wt_909) on eBay for $43.99.

Tom (:macwave:... might have to pop for one myself!)

Caitie bought herself a shuffle not too long ago with her birthday money. She loves hers. And it's easy to load music on and since she's only 7 and can figure all the bells and whistles....it must be easy. :)

Thanks Bev! I keep eyeing the ones on Amazon. I think she will just love it and will be able to figure it out. If not, I'll be telling her that a little girl in CO is out doing her....:D

I caught that little girl with her headphones in, standing on top of her dresser, singing at the top of her lungs "WE ARE THE GIRLS OF ROCK N ROLLLLLL"

I told her about it yesterday. :D I couldn't help myself. She's so excited and can't wait for it to get there. It's supposed to arrive today. Then I will just have to walk her through getting her cds on itunes.

Hi Billie, I have one of the old ones (neat green color) and I loved it. It was great for backpacking and working out. Very light, and held an adequate amount of songs. DW and DD got me a new nano this Christmas. I really like that one too (8 gigs v. 1 gig on the shuffle). The one problem with the nano is the battery life. Shuffle goes along longer without charging!

She got it today and was shocked at how small it was. :) Tomorrow I'm going to help her loads songs. I told her not to worry, it's super duper easy and that even a 7 year old can do it. :D

That is great Billie, the shuffle is a great device. Got to love the simplicity. If she has a lot of songs downloaded or from CDs the Itunes will autoselect the songs so she won't get bored with them.

Okay, so my aunt has been playing the heck out of her ipod shuffle! I helped her on the phone load her songs and everything. So now when I try to call I can't get a hold of her as she is listening to her tunes. D'oh.

So now you'll need to get her an iPhone so that when she's listening to her tunes, the phone will ring through and interrupt her! :laugh2:

Tom (:macwave:... I'm only trying to help! Really. Yeah.... right... )
