Crater Theophilus withits 3 central mountain peaks and a nice little shadow - the new scope is capable of so so much more but this was all I could manage in 20 minutes with a £20 webcam, a new camera for this is on the horizon

Awesome!

That is such an amazing thing to see from your own home in real time.

I can't get my head around the fact that it's all out there.

No the mount wasn't behaving and it wasn't a 'proper' session I just wanted to go and check the scopes collimation was ok and hadn't suffered in the transport

Nah the DSLR is for deep sky for this sort of work you need a film camera - its a highly specialist astro camera with a big chip that can do 1290x980 captures rather than the usual 640x480 and a lot more sensitive

What an amazing shot.
We came home last night about 9.00pm after watching my eldest son play Oliver in his school show, and when we looked up we all said how bright everything looked in the sky, it was a lovely sight.
Keep the photo's coming and keep me updated on any meetings I would love to come.
