Has made me do some research of my own. My current contract with Orange is due for renewal on the 1st July and I want to change my Nokia 6500 Slide for an iphone. My question is will they only ever be available through O2? I'm prepared to change to O2 on the proviso I can take my current number with me and as I understand it if I request a PAC number from Orange I can do that but with the rest of the family staying with Orange I'm wondering if I should wait to see if the iphone becomes available to other networks. What does anyone else reckon?

Rumour has it that it'll be staying with o2 at least for a while. They've put a lot of money into making sure the visual voicemail works and so on.

If you got a PAC code from orange you can definitely take your number to o2 which is exactly what I did in fact.

Another option would be to buy an unlocked one and use it on orange

Will I not lose some of the features on an unlocked one Keith?

On anything but the o2 network on an iphone tariff, you lose Visual voicemail although you do of course have normal voicemail.

So it's not a BAD option if you really want to stick with orange

you won't get the unlimited surfing -unless you have that in your orange contract. Jon has an htc touch - he can't get o2 at work so didn't get an iphone.

yeah the unlimited surfing is a feature of the o2 iphone contract but other companies do it too now on certain tariffs or even as an addon so it's not MEGA special

I'm leaning sharply towards o2 on a tariff that offers unlimited data & WiFi, 600 mins and 500 texts for 34.26 a month taking my number with me. All I need to do now is wait for the beginning of June when I can request the PAC number from Orange giving formal notice of my intention to cancel!! Then I will throw my itouch to the pack of baying wolves I call my children.
