The front desk in your hotel.

Our hotel did change TC's, but they would only change a maximum of $100! I am surprised that they have issued you with a $500 cheque - couldn't you take it back & ask for smaller notes?

Dizneyblonde

Oh.

I've signed it thinking it will be ok at the hotel.

I ordered them online so have nowhere to take it back to.
Unless the Post Office will change it for cash for me.

i'd complain T, the fact that you have to change that much at once negates the whole purpose of getting travellers checques imo

I agree - In all the times we have used TC's I have never been given a $500 one.

When Donna and I went to the UK a couple of years ago the largest they even offered to me at purchase was $100. I've never even seen a $500 check.

Have phoned the Post Office and they say there is nothing they can do.
I ordered mixed notes and that's what they have given me - end of.

Have xplained that that is a lot of money to cash all in one go and she still says there's nothing i can do except buy it back at a loss.

I explained it wasn't my fault i'd got a $500 TC and she said it was hers either as i'd asked for mixed notes.

Looks like i'm stuck with it and possibly won't be able to use it.

Nice try John!

Emailed DC about using it to pay for my video and photo packege and they said they were more than happy to take it and would just ring and check it wasn't lost or stolen.

As long as i have ID i will be fine.

Problem solved.

Read in the Brits Guide that Walmart no longer accept travellers cheques. I'm sure they did last year, maybe someone who has already been could confirm?

I don't know about that, but I did hear an TA adviser on the tv at the weekend say that they are getting harder to use in the US now.

During one of out trips we had a couple of $500 TC. We bought things from the shop next to the POC and paid with one of them. The CM took id from us then went away and phoned the issuing bank. We were there about 30 minutes waiting like lemons.

Glad you got it sorted.
