we're hoping to stay onsite but will want to try walmart. Is there a list of which ones are closest and which ones are biggest? thanks

Yes, I'm sure if you do a google search you will come up with the addresses and locations of a number of the nearby Walmarts.

I'll warn you away from one though. The newest one on Turkey Lake Road in the Dr. Phillips area is terrible (in my humble opinion of course!). It's messy, overpriced and very shoddy merchandise.

The one at Sand Lake and John Young has been around for years, but seems to be a better choice. Wider variety and better prices. Also, if you have that hire car and want to drive just a tiny bit (not far at all from AKL area) you can go to the one on north 27. It's new (ish) clean and has a small but nice selection of UK food products. It has a nice section of WDW licensed merchandise too.

Since it caters to both locals and visitors the prices are more fair than at other Walmarts closer to Disney that cater more specifically to visitors.

Did that help in the least bit, or was it just so much natter? :o

Magical Moments.

Cool! I expect a full merchandise report please. :D

There's one not far from WDW on SR535. Smaller than the one on John Young at Sand Lake, and not as well stocked, from what I remember. I didn't do a supply run on my March 2007 visit and I wasn't part of the supply run last December. It was too hard to load everyone and the baby in the car--and I really didn't want to go shopping, anyway!

Tink, feel free to correct my location or chime in if it's one of the locations you mentioned. My knowledge is very touristy--I can get there, but my directions stink! :)

Will do, Will do, I'm also gonna take my camera phone in and take pics when no staff are looking!

I have been to the Walmart next to medieval times. It was good and big. :D

Tink
06-07-2008, 11:14 PM
Yes, BouncyTigger. That's the only Walmart I ever liked to go in, but I haven't been there in years.

Taja, you are right about the location and the summation.

I'm not a huge fan of Walmart. I know that makes me in the minority, but just felt I should be open about it. :o

"Hello, my name is Tink and I don't do Walmart." Suppose there's a 12 step for me? :D

Dawn

Well I know there's all sorts of ethical issues with Walmart but I have to go once just to say I've been to a Walmart and seen the jars of pickled pigs feet.

Tink
07-07-2008, 12:35 PM
Not so sure you can't see those in other shops? My Grandfather used to eat them. Eeeeeeeeewwwww! Nastay!

I just need to say I've been to Walmart.

I've been to Meijer. I got lost in one once.

Tink

I get lost in IKEA nearly every time I've been. :sigh;

That's the one we have always gone to but when we went last year (on an evening) I didn't feel very comfortable at all - we parked right near the doors but tbh all I wanted to do was get out of there :(First time I have ever felt like that and not sure if it's because it was nighttime or that area has gone downhill or I'm just getting to be a scaredy cat as I'm getting older:(

Tink
07-07-2008, 12:53 PM
No, Lisaw. That area is going downhill. Part of the reason I've not been "down there" in several years. :(

If you like to shop at Walmart, your best bet is to choose another one.

lisaw

I don't particularly like Walmart at all, just tend to go because we know it, always feels a bit like a jumble sale to me. Are Target any better and do they stock the same sort of stuff (I tend to buy sports stuff for DS, greetings cards etc and also groceries) :)

Tink
07-07-2008, 01:09 PM
Target is a much nicer store. It is far cleaner with a better grade of merchandise.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of their food products (but I won't buy food products at Walmart either). They are ok (and they have a wonderful brand of unsweetened flavored water!) but not a huge selection.

Target is well worth checking out for the most part though!

lisaw
07-07-2008, 01:31 PM
Thanks Tink I will do that :)

Wendy
07-07-2008, 01:37 PM
I'll second that for Target, we went in one for the first time last year and it is much nicer than Walmart and I think it was cheaper for some things as well. I know the flashing light trainers I bought Livvie were cheaper and they have a nice selection of sizes. It was a lot cleaner than Walmart.

I'm trying to remember where it was, but I can't. I'll have to get the sat nav out and have a look in my saved section :D

Wendy
07-07-2008, 01:42 PM
 he never saved it! I have a feeling it was over near the Mall at Millenia but I'm not sure.

:sigh; So now I need to go to Walmart AND Target.

Taja
07-07-2008, 04:49 PM
Yep. Target is much nicer, overall. Still shop at Walmart for somethings, though. My pocketbook can handle just so much and I have to take the savings where I can find them.

Keith
07-07-2008, 05:38 PM
ooo ooo ok ! so now I need to know how to get to the closest/best target to disneyworld pleeeeeeease :)

Tink
07-07-2008, 05:40 PM
There is a Target across the road from Mall at Millenia. It is a very nice one too. Might not be the closest to WDW, but it surely is one of the nicest.

ooo yes I've noticed that as we speed along in the other direction  I never quite know what to say to the taxi drivers on that one :/ if I get one from the mall, it'll be like $5 and they wont want to take me ;(

Taja
07-07-2008, 05:42 PM
Not sure about that one, Keith, although I bet Tink knows! ;)

I've been to the one at Florida Mall and another one at.....hmmmmmm....if you take SR535 to however you get to to the old WalMart (the huge one) and continue on for a bit until the road curves left, then make a hard left into a long drive to a parking lot, you'll arrive at a Super Target. It opened in 2004, I believe. The stores around it weren't open yet.

Told you my directions are touristy!

Neither one is close to WDW, though.

That was the largest Target I had ever seen! We have Super Targets now--few and far between, but we have them!

Tink

The one across from Millenia is a Super Target. As far as I know, none of them are open 24 hours though. Surely the cabbie won't refuse!?

ooo super :)

Argh I dont kow :( it's a problem. I have the same situation getting to bestbuy opposite the florida mall. I can get a taxi there but then I'm forced to cross the stupidly busy road in between bestbuy/mall because no one wants to drive me for a $5 or less fare <G>

Dawn
07-07-2008, 05:48 PM
What do they sell in Target then?

Tink
07-07-2008, 05:51 PM
Geez. That's a real problem. The road at Millenia is pretty stupid busy too! I do see folks crossing though. I understand why now.

It's quite a variety, Dawn. Everything from food (even edible flowers!) clothing, shoes, household, linens, cleaning supplies, toys, small furniture (flat pack mostly) garden supplies...

Not sure if this link will work, but it's worth a shot!

The one I remember is #1 in on Irlo Bronson Highway. Apparently not open 24 hours.

Let's see if I can mess up another link. This one is for the Millenia Mall area.

Edited to add:

Just tested the links, but they didn't work for me. I'm on my work computer, so I'm not sure if there may be settings blocking me. Let me know and I'll remove the posts and provide the addresses if necessary.

The only walmart I've been to, I remember vaguely, they had GIANT bouncy balls (as in, you could fit 2-3 humans inside!) and I knocked it down from the top of the thing by accident and got shouted at by a store supervisor!

Super Target sell much the same as Walmart but they are brighter, cleaner and nicer. They also have a Starbucks concession inside

Taja, I've edited it for you :hug2: when you post a link now you have to make sure that you delete the http:// which is in the link box when it open it otherwise there are 2 http:// and it doesn't want to play :D

I found it quite funny myself as I was already in hysterics at the fact I'd knocked the ball over, and a very shot woman was shouting at me, I was 13 and I was taller than her  She wouldn't have been much use at getting the ball back up :lol::lol:

Did someone mention shopping?? :p

I joke that our Wal-Mart and Target have a $40 cover charge. I can't seem to get out of either store without spending that much!

Wal-Mart is usually cheaper by far. The Super Wal-Mart has a entire grocery store. The SW also stays open 24 hrs a day. WM also has a fantastic return policy.

Target generally sells many of the same things. I can always get a good bargain in there. Target houseware stuff seems to be better quality. I hear tale of Super Targets that have a grocery store but we don't have one here. Target has a HORRIBLE return policy.

And oh gosh, I love IKEA. You must always go to the cafe and get the Swedish meatballs!

Tink
11-07-2008, 01:14 PM
Aren't those meatballs great! You can buy them frozen and little packets to make the sauce you know. :D Yummy stuff.

Yes, must say that Target's return policy is awful.

I'm the same with Costco - if I don't have at least £100 to spend I don't go, or I send DH as he can come out of there with one pack of toilet rolls :rolleyes008::lol:

I love IKEA cafe - it's so cheap it would be rude not too, cheaper than eating at home :D

if you don't have to time to stop and eat, you can get it in the frozen food market thing at the end. You can pick up a frozen one for about £4 ($8)
