now I'm still not sure whether we will go camping, but we're planning as though we are!

I thought of the following things we'd need, is there anything else?

3 roomed tent (see further down the list)
sleeping bags and pillows
camp bed for me as i am *not* sleeping on the floor!
clothes, undies, shoes
couple of bottles of wine, some beers and glasses
cutlery
plates, bowls and cups
food!
tea/coffee
wash bags & towels
portable loo if poss to go in 3rd room so i don't have to venture into the *ewww* public loos!
kettles and pans for cooking

what am I missing?

(apart from my very own brand spanking new caravan with all mod cons including power shower and loo!)

Wow, never thought about a tent with an extra for just a potty....you ARE brilliant! I have an emergency potty that I bought while living in FL (in case of hurricane)...it's a big bucket with red bags.

what, the tins or the opener!

i bought a real tin opener from Tesco a while back, cost me nearly 4. the design was very strange, there was no way it was ever going to open a tin.....should have checked it out before i paid for it! It wasn't even a 'value' one!

you can get proper tents for toilets but everyone would know why you're going in there!

ooh, a camping gas cooker and gas bottles.

Wellingtons - good idea!

snow tyres (it is England) - mmmm

a small boat in case of floods - have a blow up one buried in the garage somewhere

Hangers to hang up wet clothes so they can air and dry. (can you tell l camped in the rain) - oooooh yes,

and your senses, as you have obviously taken leave of them.:rolleyes2: - you have never, ever been so right! I would rather dump them all in a field somewhere then make my way to the nearest hotel!

(we may end up in one of those yet anyway!)

A large vinyl tarp to set under the tent before you set it up to prevent wettness and dampness from seeping in, if you have any extra eggcrate mattresses or yoga mats to put under your sleeping bags, it makes a huge difference for those who are not on camp beds!Always extra water and ice  have fun! Oh and a small mat outside the tent so that the guys remember to wipe their feet before they come in, :point: the operative word is before!!!!!

mumof2
26-07-2009, 12:54 PM
oh man, it'll be like moving house - i may just stick with the hotel idea!

Who said camping was easy? Look at all that stuff.

Now if you were going to a hotel, you'd pack a bag and money...everything else is supplied....obviously, problem solved.....HOTEL it is.

I lived in a tent for the whole summer, every summer, for about 15 years.

My tent had a bar and a wine rack. :D

If you're taking wine make sure you don't forget the CORKSCREW! I was at a hotel and bought a bottle of wine to mellow out and I'd forgotten to pick one up. I stubbornly wouldn't go back to the store to buy one...perserverence paid off...I managed to open it with a hanger!

A hotel with room service!

Barring that,

Portable radio/MP3 player with speakers, or other form of music. If anyone plays a guitar, it's a good time to break it out.

Insect repellent.
First aid kit.
Tools for assembling tent. Even if it says no tools required, take an adjustable wrench, a hammer, pliers, a hammer and a couple of screwdrivers. And duct tape.

:bounce: We used to camp all the time, now we're looking at a new camper to go out west next summer. I love camping except for the sleeping part!! We always brought our truck and the car to load up the grill, tent, tarp, air matresses and i even had a large piece of indoor/ outdoor carpet that I put on the floor of the tent when the kids were small. Lots of places rent RV's or cabins too!! Where are you going?

And you get your own bathroom. That wins hands down over having to share on a campsite.

OMG absolutely! That's why I insisted on an extra room for the loo.

I can put up with washing from a bowl of water for a few days.....but sharing a toilet, arrrrgh!

I keep telling DH to get a loan so we can buy a new caravan with it's own facilities but it's just not happening

I've told DH before "sure we can go camping, then at the end of the evening when we've sat out and had a barbie you and the boys can climb in the tent to sleep and I'll go and stay at the nearest hotel!"
