View Full Version : Wilderness Lodge Must Do's?

For those of you who have stayed at WL in the past, what are your favorite things to do at the resort? Favorite things to see? To eat? Quiet place to sit?

It's a rare treat for me to have the opportunity to stay in such 'poshness' while at Disney (thanks again to my BFF, Johnie :hug2: ) so I want to make the very, very most of it.

Follow the "hot spring" water that forms a stream right out of the lobby and out to the pool...watch the electric light parade on the Lagoon from the WAY back of the pool area...eat at Whispering Canyon, just for the sheer fun factor. It won't be quiet but it WILL be fun. Look up at the layers of faux rock in the fireplace--they were designed to exactly mimic the layers of the real Grand Canyon (AND there's a hidden Mickey waaaay up in there if you can find it)!
I love the Wilderness Lodge, it was my first non-value resort, and it's always going to be special to me!

We love to simply walk the grounds. They are pretty and very well kept. Look closely at the walkways! :D :D

We Looooove Artist Point. They have really lovely food there. Fancy American if that makes any sense. As for the corner table (as you enter the one to the extreme right). It's a glorious view.

Take the boat. It's always fun.

Look out for skeeters! They grow them big in the northwoods!

Explore the lobby closely. It's the same architecture as the AKL, and the lobby is museum like.

Sit in the rockers!!! EVERYONE has to sit in them at least for a minnit! :D

Yeah, my favorite resort! Just sit and relax in the lobby. I filled my post cards out while sitting next to the stream in a rocking chair. It was the BEST!!! I just love the theme and feel of the WL. It's everything I wanted and more!

Haven't stayed but have visited . Right before you enter Artist Point is a nice little lounge to have a nice quiet drink . Artist Points food is to die for . Try the Buffalo Steak, girl .... melts in your mouth . The rockers are a nice rest indeed while you are checking out the gorgeous lobby .
I would have been coming , but I'm still waiting and pacing , pacing and waiting . I wish she'd go into labor . She even tried X today and nothing .

Ok first thing, when you check in, bat those big blue eyes and see if you can get us an upgrade

ok and the menu at Artist Point looks really yummy!

I always like to sit in the rocking chairs in front of the geyser. It's so peaceful.

Maybe I'll bring my bathing suit and we can sit in the hot tub

There's also a fantastic walk from WL to FW, it takes about 3/4 of an hour and you will hopefully see lots of deer on the way, it's a beautiful back-to-nature walk. You can always get the boat or bus back.

OHOH! Look what I found!

"Wonders of the Lodge" tour is offered at 9 am on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. This tour is about the architecture and how the Lodge was built, takes you outside, talks about landscaping, and then goes back inside and talks about the artwork like the metal work and the Totem Poles and the paintings.

They also pick a flag family each day to go on the roof and help raise the flags. You have to ask about this at checkin.

Make sure to keep a lookout for all the bunnies. They're always out in the morning and evenings. I *wub* them!

And the ducks! You can find them :point:swimming in the pool with the guests. They like it in there at night, too. That was the last thing I filmed on our trip last year. I felt it was the perfect Disney-ish image to close the curtains on.

Ohmygosh I almost forgot the wildlife, Tx Belle! The bunnehs were so much fun to watch, and my kids thought that the "pool ducks" were amazing. We never did figure out how they stand all the chlorine!

Must be b/c they're Disney ducks. It's all that :pdust: pixie dust :pdust: floating around.

What wonderful things you've all said about Wilderness Lodge. I'll be staying there next Dec 10 for my first 'deluxe' hotel trip...I'm concerned about not getting enough time away from the parks to make the most of the resort!

Oooo, the resort is so pretty during the holidays! It's the exact place where I would want to spend every Christmas. And you can always just take a drink out there, and sit a while in the lobby. That's the best way (to me) to enjoy this beautiful resort.

I have only stayed there once & I SO enjoyed waking before the rest of the family & taking a walk in the coutyard area but by far my favorite thing was to sit with my coffee & relax in the leather chairs!!! Some people sit & read the paper too-it's wonderful!!!!! Have a great trip, we'll be there in 11 days!!!!!!!

I wasn't even staying there but last trip we needed some 'down' time after a day at the MK so we took the boat over to WL. DH got a beer and we settled down on the outside patio in the rocking chairs. A girl was there doing some homework but otherwise we were all alone.

It was so peaceful and relaxing!

I can't wait to go in December!!

If you take the elevators next to the shop up to the fifth floor there is a viewing balcony with rocking chairs which give a fantastic view over the lake. We sat there for a while on Christmas day. So tranquil.

Artist point is so lovely. The Salmon was spot on and the wine pairing was fabulous.

The boat over to the Magic Kingdom at night is great. We prefer the little adventurer boat but we had a great time on Mermaid one too. The captains are so friendly and enjoy a little banter.

Sitting on your balcony watching the ELP and listening to the excitement from the pool and people returning on the boat. We will have a woods view next time so it will be slightly different to what we have had in the past, still can't wait though.

The old guy in the lobby. Have a chat with him, he is adorable and full of wonderful info about the hotel. There was also a lovely cast member who spoke to both my sons for ages about the little engine thing that is near the fire place.

They now show movies on the beach on certain nights.

My youngest son loved the rubber duck races with the cast members. He also loved the pool party lol

Stacy on the flat screen TV telling you about her top 7 places to go in Disney. Heeheeheehee Joking but your not in a Disney hotel if you don't have Stacy on your TV lol

I must admit to just loving sitting in the lobby on one of the comfy chairs and soaking up the atmosphere. Every time we go to the WL we feel very privileged and lucky, the hotel has given us some wonderful family memories.:hearts:
