I've just received a "tweet" from a friend of mine who arrived at Disney this afternoon that there are reports of a bus accident on property which has sent 12 people to the hospital.

I can't find any confirmation on the news sites at this point.

Can anyone confirm or add more information?

Just found this from the Orlando Sentinel (Twelve hurt when 2 Disney buses crash - OrlandoSentinel.com)...

Two Walt Disney World buses crashed this afternoon in front of the Contemporary Resort on Disney property, injuring 12 people, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The rear-end crash happened about 2:40 p.m. when one southbound bus stopped to merge as the World Drive narrowed from three to two lanes, said Sgt. Kim Miller, an FHP spokeswoman. The second bus did not stop in time.

Fifty people were on both buses. A dozen were taken to area hospitals. Miller described their injuries as minor. Preliminary reports indicate the buses were ferrying guests from the theme parks to hotels.

The accident comes 11 days after monorail pilot Austin Wuennenberg died when another train accidentally backed into his.

A Disney spoksewoman, Andrea Finger, said the company is working with law enforcement to ensure the "well-being of those involved."

"There's nothing more important than the safety of our guests and cast members," Finger said.

Check back for updates.

two buses collided today around 2:45 p.m in front of the Contemporary Resort. According to early reports, one bus rear-ended the other and sent 12 people area hospitals. There were approximately 50 guests on board the buses at the time of the incident. As is expected this soon after a crash of this nature, the cause of the accident is currently unknown. We will post more details as they are officially released

The Florida Highway Patrol said the accident occured around 2:40 p.m. Thursday.

Two buses were traveling on World Drive when the lanes merged.

The bus in front slowed down to merge and was rear-ended by the other bus.

The driver of the second bus faces charges.

A total of 50 people were on the buses. Twelve people were taken to four different hospitals -- Celebration, Dr. Phillips, Health Central and a hospital in Kissimmee -- with minor injuries.

I was just going to report this . Thanks, Becca !:hug2:
Now being my sarcastic self, lets have more people squished in STANDING like sardines and have drivers not paying attention . Could have been alot worse after the fireworks when buses get :mental:

I just saw this on my MSN page when I logged in. I am very concerned that cutbacks are affecting guests safety.

Makes me glad I always get a car when we go.....

Very True, Johnie ! Not only is it affecting the safety of the guests , but it seems most cast members are much more on edge and grumpy . At resorts, attractions, restaurants , poor souls arte tired .
