Springfield, hometown to America’s favorite animated family, The Simpsons, comes to life at Universal Orlando Resort launching this summer.

The expansive, new area within Universal Studios will be anchored by the mega-attraction, The Simpsons Ride, and will allow guests to enter the world of The Simpsons like never before. It will be the only place in the world where guests can walk the streets of Springfield. It will include a brand-new outdoor attraction, places and foods pulled right from the show and two new Simpsons characters who will make their debut with the new area – Krusty the Clown and Sideshow Bob.

And yes – there will be Duff Beer, brewed exclusively for Universal Orlando.

For the first time ever – anywhere – fans will be able to walk down Fast Food Boulevard and visit the places that helped Springfield stake its claim as “Shelbyville by the Sea.” They will be able to grab a Krusty-certified meat sandwich at Krusty Burger, snatch the catch of the day at the Frying Dutchman, get a slice at Luigi’s Pizza, go nuts for donuts at Lard Lad, enjoy a “Taco Fresho” with Bumblebee Man and imbibe at Moe’s Tavern.

The new attraction – called Kang & Kodos’ Twirl ‘n’ Hurl – will take “foolish humans” on an intergalactic spin designed to send them into orbit.

“This will be a must-see experience for Simpsons fans all over the world,” said Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative. “For the first time ever, they’re going to be able to enter a world that they’ve only seen on television – and we’re really excited to bring that world to life.”

“This new expansion will broaden and deepen the already incredible experience at Universal, by bringing to life the iconic landmarks of Springfield that fans have grown to love,” said Jeffrey Godsick, President, Fox Consumer Products. “Fans will literally be able to live and breathe Springfield as they visit the statue of Jebediah, enjoy a Krusty Burger, and have a seat at Moe’s Tavern, which are just a few of the great experiences awaiting at Universal.”

"It has been an honor to bring the world of the Simpsons to life in such a letter-perfect way,” said Denise Sirkot, President, Worldwide Brand, Gracie Films. “Truly this is the Krustyest place on earth."

Well since the start of the hols when we encountered one or two meltdowns things have been good.

We've so far managed to get round all the parks and do all we want except for the other side of Magic Kingdom. test track at Epcot and Fantasmic at Hollywood Studios. Rather than do whole days at Star Wars weekend we did them over two half days, seeing the parade one morning and the Hoopla another night. They were both great although I only really got to watch the Hoopla through the many camera phones that were held up in front of us. Still we were there to get in the atmosphere more than anything.

We went back one evening for Fantasmic and started in the already huge queue at 7.30 for the 9 o'clock show. We got to about 8.45 and it was announced that there was a delay. Eventually we were allowed in just after 9 only to be told once we were seated that the show was cancelled. They decided to give us a taster and let off some of the fireworks and show the lasers but that was it, 12 mins later we were all coming out.

We've done Universal over the past couple of days and the lines haven't been too bad. Today we're doing a late one for Universal to go on some of the rides we want to repeat. We've managed to buy all kinds of Despicable Me merchandise, dance with a minion and cuddle Gru so things are good.

In the morning the Davies side of the group are all getting up early to go off to Epcot to try to get Test Track in. Then the plan is to come home to chill for the whole day then go to Magic Kingdom later in the evening for the 24 hour opening. Saying that I expect we're be home by midnight. Of course there is a chance that the park will be closed due to being full to capacity but that's the risk we're take.

The weather has been good considering what those poor people are going through in Oklahoma. I sat late one evening watching the lightening jump from cloud to cloud. At that point there was no rain or even thunder, it just looked like there was a battle going on in the clouds. We had the rain in the night, but then on from there we've managed to miss the rain at the parks except on Tuesday when there was a bit of a downpour whilst we were on Harry Potter. Even yesterday when the heavens well and truly opened we were on our way home in the car.

Compared to our last trip, this one has been much more relaxed. Rather than rushing round we've managed to take it pretty slow leaving my dad and co to go off doing their own thing.

I must tell you about our shopping bargain at Lake Buena Vista shopping mall. We ended up there only by chance and Meg being Converse queen nearly wet herself when she saw the Converse shop. We popped in only to find a nearly empty shop full of people running round with dozens of shoe boxes under their arms. Well to cut a long story short Meg found 4 pairs of various colours that fit her. We went to pay with her counting out her money for around $100 on the way only to find that all 4 pairs came to just $47. We couldn't believe it, apparently the shop was closing down so there was a 75% discount on everything. Needless to say I went back for me and got 3 pairs for me and a pair for Gethin. Can you believe how lucky we were?

Or, visit during peak summer season, June 21 - Aug. 8, for $30 more per night. With this offer, up to four guests can stay in an upgraded room and receive daily continental breakfast.

The world’s most comprehensive attraction devoted to the space shuttle opens Saturday, June 29 at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. Space Shuttle AtlantisSM is the new, 90,000-square-foot, $100 million home of the priceless, historic spacecraft that tells the incredible story of NASA’s 30-year Space Shuttle Program. The Visitor Complex will open at 9 a.m. and grand opening events will take place throughout the day.

More than 30 Atlantis astronauts will participate in the grand opening of Space Shuttle Atlantis, which will offer guests the public’s first access to the attraction. From only a few feet away, guests will be awed and inspired with an up-close, 360-degree view of Atlantis. The shuttle is dramatically showcased as if it were in orbit – as only astronauts have had a chance to see it. Atlantis is elevated 30 feet off the ground and rotated at a 43.21-degree angle with its payload bay doors open and Canadarm (robotic arm) extended.

Space Shuttle Atlantis features more than 60 interactive, touch-screen experiences and high-tech simulators inviting guests to “be the astronaut,” bringing to life the people, passion and patriotism behind the Space Shuttle Program as well as the complexity of the engineering marvel that launched the Hubble Space Telescope and built the International Space Station.

Space Shuttle Atlantis grand opening festivities are included in regular Visitor Complex admission: $50 + tax for adults and $40 + tax for children ages 3-11.

I've been reading that some Annual Pass holders have been asked to provide ID when they are at the booths to enter the parking lot at the parks. I don't think all the CMs seem to know about it as it seems to be hit or miss whether you get asked or not.

I can see the reason for this, but surely if Disney is going to implement this then they should make some announcement  I can see it will be fun if someones ID is in their bag and its in the trunk of their car, the lines will soon back up.

Has anyone that has been recently been asked for ID?

When we booked the keys to the kingdom tour we spent hours researching reviews as we were worried that it would ‘spoil’ the magic.

So I thought I’d write a little piece about 'what happens' so that if anyone else has the same concerns hopefully this will help.

I won’t spoil what is said etc. I will just give a bit of outline information about the tour.

We arrived at Magic Kingdom at the allotted time; we had booked our tour for the first one of the day. We had done this because we had plans for the afternoon and I well… wanted a picture of me on Main Street on my own before rope drop. Sadly there was a street cleaner in the background so I am yet to achieve that goal lol.

Upon check in we were given a small bag which contains an ear piece and a radio receiver. The park does get loud later on and this piece of equipment is essential for you to hear everything your guide has to say.
Once you are greeted by your guide and all the equipment is checked you can begin your tour.

You are encouraged to ask questions but you are asked that any ‘back stage’ related questions are asked ‘back stage’ so that it doesn’t ruin the magic for any of the other guests.

We found that there were various tour routes around the park and this is done so that no more than one group is in the same place.

We were first taken to Main Street where we were told about Main Street, Walt Disney and the windows etc.

We moved onto various locations around the park, we called at Jungle Cruise (including a ride with alternative spiel), Splash mountain and the back stage areas surrounding it and also the Haunted Mansion.

We were provided with lunch which you are asked to choose upon check in. At lunch you are give a 'gift' as a thank you for attending the tour.

Now, there are many myths and stories surrounding the ‘underground city’ in Magic Kingdom. If you go in with that frame of mind you will be very disappointed.

There are corridors or utilidors as they like to call them, which you do get to go into. There are some really cool bits of memorabilia down there and to be honest I was geeking out at the fact that I was under the magic kingdom!

You won’t see any Characters down there as they do not take you down near the Character break room so please don’t think you will see Mickey Mouse without his make up on! lol

Hopefully I have given some insight onto what goes on as part of the tour without spoiling it for you.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask

As I am new here I thought I’d do a little trip report for my past trips to Disney World.

The first one is for my most recent trip in 2012. I posted the below trip report on another forum last year so I have updated it a little, so here goes:

We drove down to London on Friday 31st August and checked into our hotel. We also did twighlight check in with the airline which was perfect. Spend the evening chilling and in the bar! lol

Our flight out was delayed two hours the next day and that was the start of a pretty miserable journey. We pre-booked and paid for extra legroom seats which are by the exit. Because of this, the TV and table were hidden away at the side of the seats. As a result this reduced the seat width by around three-four inches. I struggled with the seats and so did my gf. We eventually got moved but lost our extra leg room. It turned out that the seats had actually bruised my gfs legs quite badly.

Once we got to Orlando it was fine. We got through passport control first (yay!) and picked up our bags pretty quickly. First in line for the hire car and got an upgrade to a convertible! I loved driving in America, it is so much easier than here and I loved every second of it.

We arrived at Coronado Springs at about 8pm Saturday 1st Sept. We had booked and requested a room close to reception, sadly we were exactly opposite to reception which meant that it was a 15min walk to reception for meals, drinks etc. We were disappointed with this.

The transport was generally on time and the food was lovely, (loved the pepper market). Some of the staff were, English, which was a bit of a downer when we first checked in as I was expecting Spanish and/or Mexican. However, they were in the restaurant which was a nice touch.
The rooms were standard Disney rooms, clean, tidy and fresh, did not have any issues with the room itself other than position.

The swimming pool was massive and warm, and was again clean.
Coronado Springs is lovely however, it is very big and as a result I would not recommend it over a value resort like pop.

First day we did Animal Kingdom, it's not my favourite park but it seems tradition means we always do this on the first day. We collected our photopass plus and off we went. We got there for rope drop and it was nice to see how they did it as we had never seen this before. Since 2006 not much at all has changed here really, my favourites are still Expedition Everest and it's tough to be a bug.

We did plan this holiday but after the Labour day weekend we found that the crowds were tiny and that pretty much everything was walk on, so we moved away from the plan a little. Most days we would get up early and do a park and then come back early afternoon for a swim and hit the parks again once it cooled down. This worked really well and actually feel like we had a holiday rather than running around cramming stuff in.

Labour day we went shopping and got some fantastic bargains or at least that's what my gf told me! lol Spent lots of money but it was fun.

I have now lost track of when I went where so the next few bits will just be from memory lol.

Disney Studios - I loved Toy Story mania, I was worried that I would hate it but it's soo fun and I won, the only downside was the wait was 1 hour, which I think was worth it. Mama Melrose was a nice meal and good value for money considering we were not on the dinning plan. Fantasmic, was my favourite show but after seeing it again, I would say that it needs replacing. It's had its time and it just feels dated. Tower of terror still remains my favourite ride ever. I still think MGM (sorry Disney studios) is still missing something but cannot put my finger on it.

Epcot - I ate in china, UK and Canada. The fish and chips were lovely; surprisingly however the 8dollar cost for a small cider was a bit of a shock lol. Le Cellier was out of this world. It's been a long time since I ate there but it was totally worth it. I could not fault any part of the meal. The cheese soup and the bread was beautiful and the fillet stake just melted in your mouth! Wonderful.

Captain EO brought back some memories from when I was a child, really enjoyed this. I also enjoyed the update to spaceship earth, so much so we rode it every time we visited Epcot.

Magic Kingdom - What can I say? It's just Disney isn't it? I just love that place and just being there. The space mountain queue was cool, although we walked straight through it. Fantasyland is coming along nicely too! However that is now finished and will need to go back to check it out.

The haunted mansion update was my biggest worry but again they have done a super job. Splash Mountain was my favourite and I got to ride in the dark for the first time! Such a geek! lol

We did Mickey's not so scary, and must say that this was one of the highlights of the trip. The atmosphere is totally different to normal magic kingdom. It's not scary at all but what they do to the place in that short space of time is soo clever. I would highly recommend this for people with or without kids. My only regret is not joining in with the dressing up. The parade was special and I loved the headless horseman. Hallowishes for me is almost better than Wishes, the only thing that lets it down is the music, so wishes still wins for me but only just.

We also did the keys to the kingdom tour! What an amazing half a day. I was so sad when it ended. I was worried that seeing the offstage area of Disney would spoil the magic but it really has enhanced it. Our guide was super and could not have asked for anything more. For any Disney nerd like me it really is a must do, and I will be doing it again on my next trip.

A little mention of universal if I may. How do these guys still make money? Universal studios has not changed one bit since my last trip or even the trip before. Simpsons was a disappointment and just a rehash of Back to the future. Rip ride rocket was broken and the mummy (although a good ride) was showing signs of getting old.

What about Islands of adventure? Well it seems they have put all there money into harry potter as IOA is the same as universal, in need of some TLC. In regards to harry potter, what a huge disappointment that was! I am not a big potter fan, but in the weeks running up to our visit, we made the effort to watch the films and get ourselves familiar with the story.

Well, the land itself was shoddy. Maybe I am spoiled by Disney, but Hogwarts looked great apart from the fact that it was clearly stuck onto a side of a building. The show building wasn't even painted to hide it, it was a blue colour. It seems everything was done in a rush. Such a shame! Disney would have done a hell of a job with that.

However! The new ride was amazing. So far ahead of Disney in terms of technology. It rivals Spiderman for being the next level when it came out. I loved this ride, I really did, I just wish they'd took the time to do the same to the area outside.

What I will say is that I had an amazing time and cannot wait to get out there again.
