The Great Irish Hooley returns for four non-stop days of incomparable Irish food, live music and fun at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downtown Disney August 30-Sept. 2.

Irish slang for a party or celebration, the Great Irish Hooley debuted in 2012 to such acclaim that it returns in 2013 with top Irish bands, music and dance workshops and Celtic fun for all in the family.

A lineup of celebrated Irish bands will play traditional, folk and rock tunes on the restaurant stage and outside on the pub patio. Families can participate in Irish dance workshops led by renowned Irish dancer and choreographer Ronan McCormack of the original Riverdance cast and join in Irish Music Workshops with distinguished Dublin-born multi-instrumentalist Declan Masterson. Guests also can kick up their heels during structured set dancing called the Ceili (kay-lee) — a precursor to today’s country line dancing. Celtic face painting and authentic food and beverages are on tap, as well.

“Last year’s hooley was such a success that we started planning early this year to invite the best of Irish bands and entertainers,” says John Cooke, a Raglan Road founding partner and native of Ireland.

Among the Great Irish Hooley lineup:

Scythian (sith-ee-yin) will play kicked-up Celtic and world music infused with a touch of punk-rock sensibility.

Lisa Canny, musician-singer-songwriter from Ireland’s west coast will entertain with traditional and folk music featuring her contemporary flair.

Elevation, the leading U2 tribute band on the planet, will rock the crowd with the best of U2.

During the celebration, guests can grab a table for authentic fare by Irish celebrity chef Kevin Dundon or belly up to one of Raglan Road’s 130-year-old imported-from-Ireland bars.

More information to follow.

Has anyone used airport assistance at Gatwick, Orlando or Manchester

We are flying with Virgin and Chris says I should make use of it this year. I'm not so sure as I think it's abusing the system. We are flying from Gatwick, but coming home to Manchester.

The main thing I am worried about is the wait when we get to Orlando, I use the handicap lane as I have been told to do that by a TSA officer who told me off (in a nice way) for standing in line  but I am hearing some really bad stories about the wait to get through immigration. Our Keith had quite a wait on his recent trip and there is just no way I will manage it.

The thing is I'm not the type of person to say excuse me and walk past people to get to the hall so I can use the handicap lane  so this is why Chris is saying I need to ask for assistance.

If I decide to, has anyone used Virgin's special assistance line and has anyone used this when flying into Orlando and if so what happens?

Disneyland Resort guests won’t have to wait until the Fourth of July to celebrate America’s birthday. They can choose any day of Independence Week July 1-7 in the parks to experience the flag-waving spirit of the holiday – all part of Limited Time Magic.

It’s a red, white and blue extravaganza as Disney Parks honor America with a Fourth of July celebration like never before.

Each week throughout 2013, Limited Time Magic treats Disney Parks guests to magical, memory-filled experiences – big and small – ranging from park-wide events to special culinary treats to special moments of surprise and delight. All are offered for a limited time. Guests can visit http://www.limitedtimemagic.com for detailed entertainment offerings during Independence Week.

As part of the special week, a fireworks spectacular rockets into the air every night above Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park with “Disney’s Celebrate America! A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky.” In this patriotic fireworks spectacular, dazzling comets and glittering bursts soar to a brand new musical score produced in a concert band style created to stir a sense of pride in being American, while at the same time, inviting guests from around the world to feel part of the celebration.

“Celebrate America!” pays homage to all Americans and all who love the best of America. The fireworks show takes place at 9:30 p.m. each night at Disneyland.

Also at Disneyland Resort, Mickey Mouse greets guests in star-spangled, patriotic attire every evening in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A. Illuminated Mouse Ears will “Glow with the Show” during performances of both “Celebrate America!” at Disneyland and the patriotic pre-show to “World of Color” at Disney California Adventure Park.

At Disneyland Resort, chefs whip up tasty treats inspired by Americana including these; red, white and blue mason jar desserts at Carnation Café’and patriotic cotton candy, apple pie pockets and Fourth of July cupcakes, in shops all along Main Street, U.S.A.

Well I was checking through the Virgin Atlantic booking info on line today and saw a great price for going out on 1st April and returning 15th and somehow my fingers developed a mind of their own and I booked it for 5 of us going. DD, DS and their partners and Grandson Isaac and then I thought well I might as well look at the BC to see how that rates and whoops I did it again, this time I've upgraded us to Club level. :wiggle::wiggle: Haven't told DD yet as she's away but rang DS and now their are some very happy people around. Told them to decide where they would really like to eat (girl on the Disney website told me when I could start booking) and now I already feel slightly sick with excitement:wink::wink: and I can put up a new countdown.:wave:

The rumors are going round again, but this time it seems that according to Theme Park Insider they seem to think that George Kalogridis and his team have been given the green light for a project to remake Disney's Hollywood Studios on a scale similar to what Disney just finished at California Adventure.

It is expected at the D23 Convention in August that Disney will announce that they are moving ahead with both Cars Land and Star Wars Land at Disney's Hollywood Studios, with the project completed by 2018.

Cars Land could replace the Lights, Motors, Action as well as Catastrophe Canyon on the southern edge of the park, providing a logical extension to the existing Pixar Place or it could be located behind the current Pixar section which will add to the Pixar theme and leave room for new Pixar based attractions to open up in that area.

Star Wars Land could be placed in the area between Star Tours and Lights, Motors, Action and include the Muppet Theater and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids play area. There is also another option of going in the opposite direction, which would place the new land on the site of the Backlot Express restaurant and Indiana Jones stunt show theater.

Disney must be considering a Star Wars Land as well because I have received 2 surveys from Disney with regard to Star Wars Land, restaurants, settings, characters etc.

These are both rumours for the time being and I guess we will have to wait until August to see if they are true.

Would you like to see this expansion and would it make you visit Hollywood Studios more?

Old Key West, (OKW) is the original Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort. That was actually its original name! It is a huge and sprawling resort with something for everyone. Laid back in true Key West style, it features a golf course and more pools that you would imagine. The main pool at the Hospitality House area has a terrific slide, and a great play area for children as well as a hot tub and sauna. The secondary pool at Turtle Crawl has a hot tub as well. There are also quiet pools that have hot tubs too!

You can rent water craft and bicycles here. There are movies for the DVDs you will find in the rooms. And Community Hall is a great place to get involved with activities and fun crafts. There are pool parties nearly daily, and marshmallow roasts in the evening.

The villas range from a studio to a Grand Villa. The studios have two queen beds, small kitchenette and a single bathroom. The one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom Grand Villas feature a full size kitchen with full size appliances, and with utensils and dishes included. They also feature a full size laundry room, and that fabulous jacuzzi tub. There is ample parking directly in front of your villa, so if you have a car you won't be hiking to find it. Also, close proximity for parking makes unloading and loading the car (if you drive) much more convenient than at any other DVC. Some of the villas are two story and some are three story. Only a very few villas have elevators, which for some is a problem.

Toward the very back of the resort there is a paved walkway to DTD. It's a lovely walk along the waterway and is shady given the natural landscaping there.

There are bus stops throughout the resort, and if you don't like walking between resort areas, you can board any bus as they all stop at the hospitality house before leaving the property.

There is a small restaurant, Olivia's which is one of the better kept secrets. It's a lovely place that has somehow retained the good food of the "old Disney" and the true Disney service. There is a snack bar at the main pool too, and a small bar, Gurgling Suitcase.

There is a ferry to DTD, and buses to all parks including DTD.

We love OKW, as it is our home resort. It's the most spacious of the DVC resorts, and the one that seems to be the most authentic to its theme.

In the mid-1960s, Walt Disney’s dream was to build a family resort destination like no other. The dream became a reality when Walt Disney World Resort opened in 1971 featuring Magic Kingdom as the centerpiece. Today, Walt Disney World Resort and its Cast Members deliver one-of-a-kind experiences to millions of Guests who come from around the world to enjoy visiting at the resort.

New Developments

Just as Walt Disney once said, “Disneyland will never be completed,” Walt Disney World Resort “will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” New projects are always in development and on the horizon, including:

Fantasyland - The largest expansion project in Magic Kingdom history began opening in 2012 at Walt Disney World Resort, featuring attractions and experiences in an area that doubles the size of Fantasyland. New elements include: Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid, Enchanted Tales with Belle, Be Our Guest Restaurant, Gaston’s Tavern, Ariel’s Grotto, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Great Goofini and Casey Jr. Splash ‘n’ Soak Station.

Splitsville - Located in Downtown Disney, Splitsville offers an upscale bowling and dining experience that’s perfect for families and Guests of all ages. Spanning 50,000 square feet and two floors, Splitsville has 30 lanes and an impressive menu featuring fresh sushi rolls, gourmet burgers, hand-tossed pizzas and salads.

Test Track Presented by Chevrolet - Puts Guests in the driver’s seat for a thrilling experience and immersion into the world of auto design and performance. As part of an all-new interactive queue, Guests can create their own virtual concept vehicles prior to buckling into their 6-person “SimCar” ride vehicle and putting their design through its paces on the exhilarating hills, switchbacks and straight-aways of the Test Track circuit.

The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow - The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow debuted at the end of 2012 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios giving Walt Disney World Resort Guests a chance to become immersed in the world of the four “Pirates of the Caribbean” films. Aspiring pirates experience the story of Jack Sparrow like never before to discover if they have what it takes to join Captain Jack’s crew. The attraction is located in Soundstage 4, former space of Journey Into Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Four Seasons Resort Orlando - The 900-acre luxury resort residential community of Golden Oak, anchored by the prestigious Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, is scheduled to open in 2014. The development, along the northeast border of the property, will include a luxury hotel, 18-hole championship golf course, single- and multi-family vacation homes and fractional ownership vacation homes.

AVATAR -Walt Disney Imagineers are currently in the design stage for AVATAR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide is joining forces with visionary filmmaker James Cameron and Fox Filmed Entertainment to bring the world of AVATAR to life creating themed lands that will give Guests the opportunity to explore the mysterious universe of AVATAR first hand. With its emphasis on living in harmony with nature, Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a natural fit for the AVATAR stories, which share the same philosophy. Construction is expected begin in 2013 and project of this size typically takes approximately five years to design and build.

New Experiences

Disney Parks offer new immersive experiences and updates to several Guest favorites. Here’s what’s new:

Disney’s Art of Animation Resort - A new resort hotel inspired by Disney animation features 1,120 family suites themed after “The Lion King,” “Cars” and “Finding Nemo,” and 864 themed rooms in “The Little Mermaid” wings. Animation themes carry throughout building exteriors and room interiors and feature larger-than-life icons from the animated films in courtyard areas. Crowned by a 35-foot-tall model of King Triton, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort is located next to Disney’s Pop Century Resort.

Disney Phineas & Ferb: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure (Epcot)- Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure is based on the wily secret-agent alter-ego of Perry the Platypus – faithful pet to the title characters from Disney’ Channel’s animated series “Phineas & Ferb.” Transforming into secret agents, Epcot Guests will use a “high-tech secret agent device” to scour World Showcase for clues, evil “Inators” and – with a little bit of luck – help Agent P defeat his nemesis Dr. Doofenshmirtz.

Tutto Gusto (Epcot) - Located adjacent to Tutto Italia Ristorante in the Italy pavilion, Tutto Gusto Wine Cellar is a more intimate space complete with stonewalls, vaulted ceilings and a fireplace in the dining room. Inspired by an atmospheric Italian wine bar, Tutto Gusto features a small-plate menu plus more than 200 Italian wines, as well as beers, grappa and other libations.

New interactive queues (Magic Kingdom) – As part of New Fantasyland, the all-new queue at the reopened “Dumbo” is now open for children and families to enjoy. The innovative queue area completely redefines what it means to prepare for a Disney attraction as a “circus ticket” pager holds a Guest’s place in line and notifies them when it’s their turn to fly with Dumbo. Our youngest Guests can also play in the fully-immersive, transformed queue at the “Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh.” The entry to this classic Fantasyland attraction entertains youngsters with drum playing and gopher surprises in Rabbit’s Garden, tiny playhouses to climb through and amazing special effects at Pooh’s Hunny Hives. Guests who dare to enter “The Haunted Mansion” will find frightful fun in a new courtyard queue that brings them into an expanded, interactive graveyard. The area features a ghoulish organ, a wall of unusual musical instruments Guests can “orchestrate,” a chance to complete a rhyme with the Decomposing Composer and photo opportunities with favorite spirits from the beloved attraction.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom - Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort features a brand-new interactive experience enabling Guests to defeat the Disney Villains. Armed with magic spells in the form of special cards, players must search for the symbols that lead them to the animated villains’ hiding places. Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom will be included as part of park admission.

The Exotics Course featuring “supercars” (Walt Disney World Speedway) - The Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World Resort now features a brand-new adrenaline rush, the “Exotic Driving Experience.” The “Exotics Course” at Walt Disney World Speedway, a new one-mile circuit custom-built for the attraction, is home to a riding experience for Guests in “supercars” by Ferrari, Lamborghini, Audi and Porsche. Thrill-seekers can get behind the wheel of these epic vehicles and navigate a circuit offering rapid-acceleration straight-away with a skill-testing course of turn-on-a-dime maneuvers.

New Niche Rooms Add Magic at Disney Resorts

Over the next year, new Walt Disney World Resort hotel rooms will enable Guests to sleep like visiting Disney royalty during their vacation.

When Walt Disney World Resort Guests stay in the Royal Guest Rooms at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort-Riverside, they’ll discover special treasures left behind by the stars of favorite animated films such as “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast” and “The Princess and the Frog.” In quarters befitting not only the young Princes and Princesses of the family but also their grown-up King and Queen parents, Guests can unwind amid remarkable décor. They’ll be able to watch “fireworks” swirl as they recline in ornate beds, curl up in custom linens and more. It’s majesty and fun, all rolled into one. Each of the 512 Royal Guest Rooms sleeps up to four Guests in two queen beds.

Customization and Personalization

Walt Disney World Resort Guests can personalize and customize their vacations like never before:

“Magic Your Way” ticketing and packages allow Guests to create their own Walt Disney World Resort vacation. Ticket-holders can customize their Walt Disney World Resort theme park visits by adding components to the base ticket such as park-hopping, water parks or other vacation fun. The savings grow the longer a Guest stays.
This resource has special offers and helps Guests customize their vacation itinerary to suit interests as well as considerations such as age, height restrictions and medical needs.

Technology

I have a child's ticket (3-9) available for anyone that will be able to use it.

A friend of ours went to Florida back in February...they did 3 days at Disney and one at Universal/IoA. On the day the family went to U/IoA, their smallest boy was sick, so Dad and son skipped the park. They had pre-purchased online, so this gave them 1 adult and 1 child admission to both parks.

They knew we had a trip planned, so they gave us the tickets to use if we could. We were a bit worried we would not be able to use them as it clearly has a name on the ticket and it says you must have an ID and the credit card the pass was purchased with to use it. However, Jordan used the adult pass last Wednesday to get in and he said they just scanned it without even looking at it.

I reported to our friend our success and offered back the child's ticket if he knew anyone else that might be able to use it. He told me to keep it and find a good home for it...so i came here. .

If anyone here is going soon and hasn't bought tickets yet, I have a child's 1 day/2 park ticket to Universal/IoA FREE to good home.
