Disney fine for fatal monorail crash lowered still further
Disney has negotiated a settlement with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to lower the fines that were imposed after this summer's fatal monorail accident. In December, OSHA fined Disney $44,000 for the crash and three unrelated violations. The fine for Disney not requiring spotters when trains are backing up will remain at $7,000. This was deemed a "serious" violation and is what contributed to the crash. Under the terms of the settlement, Disney has agreed to correct all the violations and OSHA will lower the other fines by 20 percent, bringing the total down to $35,200.
