U can get special approved locks. We have never done it though, I never put anything that can't be replaced in the checked luggage
There are special TSA approved locks available, such as this one:
TSA SPELL Lock SS - Black, TSA Padlocks, Safes, Fire Safes And Security, Furniture - Staples
i bought tsa approved padlocks not the combination locks as i dont think its very hard to get those open, bit harder to open if they are key opening
Last time I went to FLorida, I left my suitcase unlocked and there was a note from USA to say that the suitcase has been checked.
If there was no note, I would not have noticed that they have checked the case.

oh right, thanks guys, x
I seems every time I fly my case is checked now.
I don't put anything in it like electronics, cameras, etc. Not that my clothes and shoes and other sundry articles don't have value but they seem less "wanted" than electronics, ect.
There have been any number of reports of stolen items from unlocked cases (but again, only those sorts of things like iPods, cameras, camcorders, laptops (who would put a laptop in checked luggage?????)).
I don't lock mine all the time, but sometimes if I remember to, I put the combination lock on. Don't know why, it's not like it protects against anything. I have soft sided luggage so nothing a knife can't get into, eh?
Donna carries ALL of her electronics on board with her.
