Re: Delta Airways disaster
I've had problems with Delta before (but those you experienced are something else again!).
I used to travel every week for work, and ended up only using Delta in a complete emergency. I had nothing but poor service from them, and as you experienced, very rude service.
If you can avoid them, I would.
Re: Delta Airways disaster
I would certainly send a letter or email to their customer service dept. [You say that you don`t "do stroppy", but that experience beggars belief and a strong letter of complaint would not go amiss].
For my part, it has been ages since I last flew with Delta and to be honest I found them to be very good at the time.
This was years ago though so it sure seems like their standards of customer care have slipped somewhat since then.
Re: Delta Airways disaster
i think it worth paying the extra and fly with virgin:yes: we went with them last year and they were great:yes: i would be completelt put off if i had your experience
Re: Delta Airways disaster
Wow, I've never had a problem like that with Delta. The biggest problem I've had was flight cancelled because of mechanical problems. I was headed to Europe and needed to be there the next day for business. They paid for my taxi to a different airport and put me on a flight leaving that night on a different airline.
Re: Delta Airways disaster
How long ago was that?
I used to fly Delta with good results in the 90's. Service changed dramatically for the worse in the 2000. I stopped flying with them for all intents and purposes in 2009.
Re: Delta Airways disaster
Ive had good service from delta and American airlines but had terrible service from Virgin which has meant that I still won't use them 10 years on.
I would definitely complain to them as this is not acceptable. I've found that the internal flights in the US have poorer customer service than the transatlantic ones.
Re: Delta Airways disaster
I haven't bothered writing to complain as a sorry really wouldn't cut it and I get the impression they wouldn't be bothered anyway. They are such a big airline that one complaint from us won't make any difference. I didn't see the point in getting frustrated when they didn't reply or gave a shoddy excuse, it takes too much energy being angry and I don't have any spare for them. :madflames: The best thing to do is make sure I tell anyone considering flying with them -DON'T.
I have had similiar experiences with British Airways, not the seating fiasco but sheer rudeness. Every other weekend I used to fly up to Scotland to see my partener who was stationed there with the RAF. At that time BA owned the airport at Inverness so you didn't have any choice but to fly with them. I can guarantee that not once over 18 months did I see a member of the aircrew smile or act in anyway that they were happy in their job. Flying to Prague was the same and Bahrain was equally as bad, in fact we had a stewardess who constantly tutted when you asked for anything.
I think the problem with a lot of these airlines is that they get complacent and don't seem to consider customer service as important, which is a stupid attitude in this current financial climate.
I've heard good things about Virgin and also my family flew with Continental last year and said they were great especially with the kids.
In the words of my DH "I wouldn't fly Delta even if they were the last airline available, I'd rather pay more for someone else". That's a lot coming from him as he never has an opinion on anything he just say's "lovely wifelet, get it booked then". Bless him. :hug2:
Re: Delta Airways disaster
Continental is great for overseas travel. I used to fly them quite regularly. They do get delayed too much (domestic) but they are very good about giving free flight vouchers if they delay you beyond a certain amount of time.
I had one experience with Continental where the worker was beyond rude. I got her name from her tag, told her that I'd be reporting her before I left the airport, and did so. I received a letter later saying she'd been "retrained" in customer service. Yes, she was that rude.
No one airlines is perfect, but some do try a bit harder than others. I never used to be a big fan of Continental, but they won me over through time.
Re: Delta Airways disaster
what a dreadful experience sam. id not fly with them again as it seems very common, more than likely every flight.
im a fan of virgin have flown with them every trip bar one and only had brilliant service :D
