California OSHA issued its inspection citation on Friday relating to an icident at Space Mountain, including penalties totaling $230,000 for violations ranging from out of date fire extinguishers to the lack of sufficient support lines and unsafe conditions involved in November’s accident.
Disneyland launched its own internal safety review and decided to voluntarily close three attractions. Those attractions were Space Mountain and The Matterhorn Bobsleds at Disneyland and Soarin’ Over California at Disney California Adventure.
The Matterhorn re-opened later in the day yesterday but Space Mountain and Soarin’ over California remain closed.
It is unclear why Soarin has been closed.
Suzi Brown, Director of Media Relations and External Communications for the Disneyland Resort said, “we have received notification of the citations and are working with OSHA to fully review them.” Relating to the temporary ride closes Brown added, “we constantly strive to maintain a safe work environment for our cast members and contractors — and we are reviewing certain protocols.”
Wow. OSHA violations are serious stuff. Good for Disney for shutting down of their own choice. Shows real responsibility. They are industry leaders.
