Thinking of getting a new mac

while in Orlando next month...

It has to be a laptop... and I dont even know whats out there since its been ages since we bought one (have an emac bought in '05)

So.. which one would you suggest? it will be mostly used to keep our pics, download music and be our primary itunes library and for internet...

I dont want to spend too much, then again I have no idea what they cost right now, so havent figured out a budget.

oh!! also.. where would you buy such apple thingy in Orlando??

Can't help with Mac spec. But there is a big Apple shop in the Florida Mall.

me too! decideded to get a desktop rather than a mac book and that's as far as it goes at the moment. I;m hoping that if i'm a good girl Santa will be kind to me

ooo how exciting!

There are two easily accessible Apple stores, both with same pricing. One in the Florida mall and one in the Mall at Millenia. Doesn't really matter which you go to, they're very similar.

In terms of which to get well the least expensive is the macbook and it will easily cope with everything you've mentioned and then some Depending when you're there, you may find buying later in the month it comes with the brand new macosx snow leopard whereas earlier you'll have to upgrade (but you'll get a voucher to upgrade very cheaply for a few dollars so it's not a huge deal).

Other than that don't get pulled too much into walking up the spec ladder, the base level macbook will do you (although the new 13" macbook pro is rather nice

You can also get Mac laptops in Best Buy. You need to know exactly what you want though, as they are not the most helpful place to make a fact filled decision.

We like Millenia Mall Apple as it's closer to our home, but I think Keith prefers the one in Florida Mall, don't you Keith?

*marginally* yes but I could be biased because I prefer the florida mall to the mall at millenia. In terms of Apple stores they're very very similar and I wouldnt have a problem going to either to buy a laptop.

Im not a huge fan of bestbuy for macs I must admit. I'd GO THERE if they had a specific offer or something but otherwise I'd stick to the apple store

I've nothing against best buy at all, actually I always make a point of going there and the one at winter gardens is a little less touristy than the one by the florida mall

However, macs are quite different from pcs and my discussions with the "experts" at best buy have left me cold. Also I've often seen brand new systems at the Apple store a few hours after an update has come out. I've gone to best buy a few days later and they're still shipping the older models at full price current rates

Now, if you know exactly what you want, they have it in stock all wrapped up and you check the box to ensure it's the very latest model *OR* they have some kind of deal on, then absolutely great, I'd buy one.

However all things, price etc., being equal, I think it's better going to the proper apple store. You'll be assured of the very latest kit, the turnover of macs is such that the stock won't have been sitting there. The staff are wholly dedicated to mac which ok, doesn't guarantee that they're all great but gives you a higher probability than at best buy.

As I say, no huge bias or awful experience, just a feeling.
