Getting Our Dollars

We are going to New York, San Francisco, Hawaii and L.A. in just under 3 weeks.
The exchange rate isnt too good at the moment and when we went to Ibiza in May, we noticed we would have got a better rate on our Euro's if we had bought them over there.
If we just took Sterling with us and exchanged over there, would we get a better rate? or would it just be too much hassle trying to change it at banks etc?
As its a 3 week trip (almost) and my daughters 21st, we will be taking quite a bit of money as I have to take her to Tiffany's for a start!!!

wow!! it sounds like an awesome trip!!

What we normally do is buy when the exchange rate is good, if it isnt good at all, we just buy part and then take our debit cards and take money out of our bank accounts directly in the States...
