'Naked' scanner

I might be the only one that this doesn't bother I don't know see it any different to getting naked in front of my doctor- it's for my own safety and whilst I may not like it, there are much more embarrasing things that could happen- A cavity search for example The people doing the screening will be so acustomed to it that they will be sick of the sight of 'plumbing' LOL

It reminds me of friends when the gynacologist says "You know you work in a coffee store and you think.... if I see ONE MORE CUP OF COFFEE!!"

I just don't like the statement that it is not erotic or pornographic. These people do not know what turns others on. There are a lot of people out there that are disturbing individuals, and they will apply for a job like this. And like it was said before, they do not put that kind of information on the application.

It really doesnt bother me at all. Im such a terrible flyer, the thought of boarding a plane terrifies the living day lights out of me, and when i think of the sorts of people that could be on that flight with me - well, it turns me into a bit of a mess if im honest. If walking through that thingy is eliminating those sorts of people then im all for it.
No point making sure you've got your best pants on that day though is there haha!

The problem is how far do you go in the quest to avoid the potential acts of bad people?

The further and further we go, the more the bad people win by default without even needing to do anything. Our lives are disrupted, hard won liberties are lost and we inch towards a society dominated by fear. Exactly what the terrorists had in mind in the first place!

There have to be sensible precautions, I can't argue otherwise but it's so easy to accept the creeping that I worry we'll look back in a few years and wonder how we lost so many fundamental freedoms so quickly.

Just as reminder. We've lost, in some circumstances, the once undeniable right to a trial by peers, the right to remain silent when arrested. We can be held for longer periods of time than ever before without anything more than a suspicion. We're recorded on CCTV cameras not just by the police but by local councils (There is one CCTV camera for every 14 people in the UK. If you live in London you are likely to be on cameras 300 times a day) and on and on and on. That's before we even get to ID cards which at the moment are looking like a flop but who knows what'll happen there.

We're more labelled and tracked than ever before and though ID cards are now not in favour (phew for now!), the suggestion was that if you rolled out of bed in the morning, went for your morning paper without ID you could be arrested.

Now we've got naked images at airports and how long before someone says well a railway station is no less important! Nor is that office building you go every day (after all, nice for the bosses to make sure you're not walking out with any office supplies - not that it would ever be used for that, perish the thought

The scanners are only £80k now, when they're new and development costs are being paid off. They'll be smaller, cheaper and in the lining of corridors you walk down before you know it. Possibly without you knowing it.

As Tink says, I doubt anyone will be rushing to print my image any time soon but it's another little creep of something that most of us would have found unacceptable a few short years ago and is now just part of "well if it makes me safer".
