      Mac v's Windows

I have grown up with Windows and use it still today, I have been into out local Apple store a few times and do like some of they pc's.
The question is this, What I notice any difference if I changed to a Mac ? and what wold they be?
I use my pc for editing photos using photoshop, I browse the internet everyday and sometimes use it for writing letters.

      Re: Mac v's Windows

argh always such a hard one to answer.

You can do the same jobs on both now.

Macs can run windows, pcs cant run macosx (Apple technically prevent it by using a special chip in macs which macosx looks for).

So, if you want utter and total compatibility, Mac is actually the better platform these days.

You can run all the usual stuff on both. There are some great apps on mac like iWork which I can't praise highly enough. Comes with ilife free and so on.

Overall I think nutty has it right. You'll have to get used to a new way of doing things and MOST people find that if they can throw away thoughts of how it used to be done, they prefer the new way.

It'll potentially revolutionise your enjoyment of your computer time

Here's Apples own page for switchers:

      Apples Switch 101

Take a look there and they'll go through some of the differences and how to do things in the Apple world. If you're like most however, once you get used to it, you'll wonder why you didn't do it before.

      Re: Mac v's Windows

Well I switched to avoid vista, only reason, and found it very very easy - infact it is so much easier to use that windows I found the tutorial above helped

Also the new macs have an intel processor and you can use windows on your mac either as a 'virtual machine' in mac OS like running it in a 'window' or you can boot the system entirely in windows and use it like a pc - which I have to do for some of the software I use

for all browsing email and wordprocessing I use it as a mac and will not go back

      Re: Mac v's Windows

we almost switched to an apple laptop when we bought a new one but in the end stuck with a pc. Just a matter of I don't take well to changes & I knew that I'd have to go through an anxiety attack before I found my way to the other side, lol. Plus, it's taken me years to learn the itty bitty bit I know how to do on my computer so to start over in learning does not sound like a good plan to me since I'm not really unhappy with Windows.

youve been able to run wondows on a mac for over 10 yrs even when they used the motorola processors, but it was a pig to get working. thing that puts me off a mac laptop is the huge price of a macbook pro, wouldnt go for the macbook, screens to small

It wasn't a pig to get working it was just slower than on an equivalent pc because they had to emulate the intel processor in software. It was still WOW GREAT but it just felt like a memory and cpu hog sometimes.

Now of course they both use intel and it's just blisteringly fast.

It's pretty wonderful to be sitting there in macosx and call up a windows app if you feel you need to in a window alongside all the mac apps.

The 13" macbook is too small for me too nutty although LOTS AND LOTS of my friends love theirs and wouldn't consider anything else.
