Info Virgin atlantic change baggage policy (again)

Yep, already the change from september has been replaced, or will be on 25th November 2009

      Virgin Atlantic Airways - Popup

Looks to me like economy to USA is now only 1 23KG bag each.

Virgin Atlantic will be changing it's check-in baggage policy to a 'Piece System' across the entire network for all tickets booked from 25 November 2009. This replaces the change originally intended for launch on the 23rd September and now includes a revised allowance for passengers travelling Economy.

The changes are being made to allow us to simplify our policy, save costs, and lower our charges for passengers wishing to take additional bags. In the majority of cases, passengers who wish to fly with excess baggage in addition to their free allowances will pay less than they do now.

Our Gold card holders will also be able to take one additional bag on top of the free allowance, irrespective of the cabin flown.

We will continue to offer one of the most generous allowances in the industry for passengers wishing to take sporting goods.

New Allowances from 25 November 2009*
Number of Bags - 23kg Each:
Route: Upper Class: Premium Economy: Economy: Infants:
      USA 3 2 1 1
      Caribbean 3 2 1 1
      India 3 2 1 1
      Japan 3 2 1 1
      China 3 2 1 1
      Australia 3 2 1 1
      South Africa 3 2 1 1
      Mauritius 3 2 1 1
      Dubai 3 2 1 1
      Kenya 3 2 2 1
      Nigeria 3 2 2 1

      EXCEPTIONS:
      - Passengers travelling in Economy between the USA and India - one additional bag at 23 kilos.

      - Gold card holders - one additional bag at 23 kilos, irrespective of the cabin flown.

      - Sporting allowance - 1 additional bag up to 23 kilos, irrespective of the cabin flown. (Sporting Equipment allowance).

*Any passenger booked before 25 November 2009, will be entitled to Virgin Atlantic's existing baggage allowance.

Excess Charges from 25 November 2009:**
      Online***: Airport:
      1st Extra Bag GBP32/USD48 GBP40/USD60
      2nd & Subsequent Bags GBP32/USD48 GBP90/USD140
      Overweight (23-32kg) Not available GBP30/USD50
The above fees will be converted into the local currency where applicable.

      - Any bags weighing over 32 kilos will not be accepted.

      **Charges quoted are each way.

***Online payments will be available from 25th November 2009.

Re: Virgin atlantic change baggage policy (again)

So I can "buy" a second bag for £32?

      Cheaper than upgrading to PE.

Re: Virgin atlantic change baggage policy (again)

Even £32 each way is better than the price of a PE seat.

But I've already booked. Do I get the old allowance or do i have to have paid in full.

Re: Virgin atlantic change baggage policy (again)

When I was booking my internal flights I spoke to the girl about this.

If you have booked with VA (flight only) and have paid in full and/or have your tickets before the new policy change date then you will get the old allowance.

If you have booked with VA and will receive your tickets or depart before the date of the new policy then you will receive the old allowance.

If you have booked with VH (We have a fly drive with them) and don't go before the date of the policy change or don't have your tickets yet then you won't get the old allowance.

If you have booked your flights with a travel agent and have not received your tickets yet then you may not get the old allowance, it will depended on when the travel agent put through the booking and your travel date.

She did tell me to keep a check on it as they were still tweaking the details at that point.

Often best thing i find is to check BA's site as they seem to hold Bransons puppet strings ..What BA do Branson then does....Shame he does not use these things to entice BA passengers over to VA
