Maldive 4 - Fish
One of the most wonderful things here was obviously the sealife. There were quite a few afternoons where we saw pods of dolphins swimming past the island, jumping out of the water, and doing that twisty jumping thing you see at Seaworld. Apparently one of the pods we were seeing was composed mainly of babies and was the nursery going by. So incredible.
Even if you didn’t like snorkelling or scuba diving it was easy to watch the underwater stuff as the water is so very clear. We often sat on the jetty and just watched what was going on around the coral, and the fish are always jumping out into the air too. This picture was taken from above, and gives an idea of how easily you can see them.

We took a sheet with pictures of Indian Ocean fish with us to help us identify them, but there were way more than the ones on there, and we still have to go through them and name them. The variety of fish was mindblowing, everywhere you looked there was something different. There were loads of different types of coral and sea cucumbers too. We had bought a new little Pentax Optio W60 waterproof camera, and although it took a while to get the hang of it (mainly due to fact that the manual that came with it was in French
) we improved after a few days. I am just going to put a selection of some of the fishies up here for your perusal
This first couple...three of these fishes swam with us every day. When we went into the water outside our room they were always feeding on the algae on the rocks, and would let us get right up close, and then wander off with us for a little. They were very cool, and beautiful, and about 2 feet long.

Re: Maldive 4 - Fish
Yeah but I haven't seen a single kiddy on your photos and I'm guessing they wouldn't be welcomed by most of the other guests

This particular hotel doesn't take kids under 12, but there are loads that do and some even have kids clubs. Nearly every hotel has a great house reef and a shallow lagoon for swimming and snorkelling - apparently ours wasn't anywhere near the best reef! You should have a little browse. Dreamticket always has offers that are way lower than brochure prices.
