Re: OMG This thing is amazing!!!
It's a hard one that. I think for RAW processing power, I'd still put my money on a mac pro even if the benchmarks are climbing up that way for the imac but with that having been said, ALL the stuff I do day to day that I'm throwing at the imac, it's eating up. Everything is instant and though I know it's early days, I feel like this would be the desktop for "everyone" and the mac pro would be for specialist apps.
I can't see me using my mac pro again to be honest (which is kinda sad)

Re: OMG This thing is amazing!!!
Here's a question for Keith and Skywatcher now they've got these things. How heavy are they.

Here's the reason I ask. I have my MacBook Pro. My office is in the basement of our house and that's where I normally work during the week. However, on the weekend, I pick everything up and come upstairs to our kitchen where my DW has her "office" area setup. We both then work upstairs. After the weekend, I pick it up again and back downstairs it goes.
How feasible would this be with the iMac?
I really only have the laptop because at the time I bought it, there wasn't any other options. Now... who knows.

Re: OMG This thing is amazing!!!
Perhaps sir skywatcher will feel differently, but I wouldn't want to be carrying it up and down, not even once a week. I think your 17" megabook would be far better for that

Re: OMG This thing is amazing!!!
I love my macbook pro and it will ALWAYS be my computer of choice for my astronomy as I simply need portability
The 27incher isn't portable not because of the weight really just the size of the screen
The keyboard and mouse are however ridiculously portable
I still haven't had any time to load up all my photos and music and programmes onto it yet or even set up my email account - the weekend will do that
The boys are just playing for hours on 'photobooth' as there is now a rollercoaster backdrop
I can see me having this computer for a long long time
Lisas ister is here at the moment and when her and her husband came in they just went 'WOW' it is an achingly beautiful thing and i havent even scratched the surface of whatit can do
Being a windows chap all his life he was amazed I was upa nd surfing in 17 seconds after turing it on
Whether I will rue the day I didn't get the i7 rather than the i5 I don't know but suspect it won't be for many years yet.
Still so so much to learn
