i just need to get one ordered, my niece has a dell which she is more than happy with.

it has mcafee for 15 months, MS works but not word, should i pay an extra £20 for word?

It's a capable little unit and good value I think!

The home/student upgrade to office 2007 for £60 is much better value than the £20 for word 2003 though :/ I realise it's another £40 of course but you don't really want word 2003

Mairead- as an NHS employee i can download word for something like £8 - you may be able to get a good discount coz of hubbys job have a google!

M, i clicked your link- are you determined on a dell? i've just got a 3gb, dual core processor 250hard drive, also has a web cam for £20 less from tesco- but it's a lenovo i guess. Depends what you want. The acer on there has a better spec than that too- it depends what you want- make versus spec

id go for a lenovo over a dell, lenovo are re badged IBM's

Lenovo are great, though Tink may want to disagree at this point

Lenovo bought IBMs thinkpad brand and has been manufacturing good quality laptops for a few years now

oh good- i was a bit concerned that it may be cheap- got it today and jon setting it up for the birthday girl for the 19th!

I won't argue much, Keith. I didn't like this machine at first, but I have to admit, now that I'm a bit used to it (had it 19 months now) it's a work horse. I've carted it around the country, use it almost constantly (it's never shut off)... can't complain (well, I could but they won't give me a Macbook pro).

A Lenovo for a good price will be a good machine.
