They do very different things

If it was a case of either I'd get the macbook

But I am getting a pad for surfing on the sofa or, as you brilliantly suggested , showing photos.

I am hoping there will be a way to link to an external hard drive wirelessly with it at some point

well i have the new desktop that I use to do editing and any serious stuff on so it is surfing the net etc and i already have a laptop. You can't say i haven't been patient though

The photoviewing thing was shown off at the keynote they've even designed a built in photo app to do it which looks great. So yeah, that one's a given.

Still no news at all on UK anything though There was a rumour that the US folks would be able to order it last Thur/Fri with a delivery date of end of March but turned out to be wrong.

The exchange rate is so rubbish right now, I could see them starting at £399 over here

Either way I'll be queueing up at the Trafford centre to get my hands on one

I think that's going to be available out of the box. Since the iPad will run iPhone apps, you could probably use something like this:

Air Sharing

There's plenty of others that provide the same functionality.
