manchester versus gatwick

we have a choice of manchester or gatwick when we go in Aug 2011. Anyone done both? opinions?

we will need to stop over and like the meet and greet parking at LGW- presumably you can do that?

is the airport easy to get to - we will be coming from the east coast

I havent been to gatwick in years so not sure what it's like now. Manchester is our local airport so we tend to fly from there and I don't think it's great.

It gets the oldest virgin planes, the staff are hit and miss. There arent many shops even after the recent refurb and all in all it just feels a bit so so.

i think they fly direct to Atlanta from there and that's why i was thinking of it.

Gatwick from the East takes ages and ages, it's a looooooooooong journey. I would seriously stay the night before.

i know! on mapquest directions it said it would take 2 hours 50 mins to get there. What a flipping joke!

and the rest. you're looking at longer than that, they always have roadworks somewhere.

We simply love Gatwick, we always stay the night before at Hilton (they do wonderful 3 course buffet!) As we are flying with Virgin we use Twilight check in (7-11pm or so) it just means we are free to explore the airport in the morning as we already have our boarding pass when we checked in the night before :-D

i like the airport- it's getting there that's the problem! lol

I may look at the hilton next time- see what the deals are. Would love to just walk to the airport in the morning
