U can get special approved locks. We have never done it though, I never put anything that can't be replaced in the checked luggage

There are special TSA approved locks available, such as this one:

I seems every time I fly my case is checked now.

I don't put anything in it like electronics, cameras, etc. Not that my clothes and shoes and other sundry articles don't have value but they seem less "wanted" than electronics, ect.
There have been any number of reports of stolen items from unlocked cases (but again, only those sorts of things like iPods, cameras, camcorders, laptops (who would put a laptop in checked luggage?????)).
I don't lock mine all the time, but sometimes if I remember to, I put the combination lock on. Don't know why, it's not like it protects against anything. I have soft sided luggage so nothing a knife can't get into, eh?
