Re: Planning a beach trip
Jon and I are thinking of taking a trip up to Maine in August and camping...Johnie, you should come along with us!! You don't have to camp, you could just do the beach bit
Jon's aunt lives not far from Portland, so we've only ever been as far as her house, I'm looking forward to exploring a bit further!

Re: Planning a beach trip
Did you decide where you are going to camp? I've been camping there (although must admit, it's NOT my favorite thing to do) Barcadia if you can believe it!
Not a bad place at all though. Definitely above Portland.
There's this lovely little place just above Rockland in Glen Cove. It's on the right as you are headed North. For the life of me I can't remember the name, but it's a glorious spot. Hasn't been improved since the fifties. Has wicked little cottages, and then efficiency style set ups, and motel rooms. Not sure about bona fide camping though. It's on it's own cove with a shingle beach and those wonderful huge rocks that you can clamber all over. The trawlers come into the cove in the morning. It's one of those places where you sit on the rocks with your morning beverage of choice and just listen, watch and breathe. I'll check on the name of it when I get home. I have a postcard from there... darn! Wish I had a memory! :sigh;
All that to say, have fun! Be sure to eat loads of lobster and clams.

Re: Planning a beach trip
If pushed, I'd have to say it's probably NOT my favorite thing to do either, but I'm open to the idea....and Jon really seems excited about it...We haven't decided on any campsite for certain since we don't know the area well, so I will absolutely take your ideas and run with them!! I like the idea of a cottage, wonder if I can convince Jon that's as good as camping...Your description of it sounds...PERFECT...exactly what were looking for...you paint such a peaceful picture...
I am DEFINITELY looking forward to some good seafood!!!! I have to say, if there is ANYTHING about my new area that disappoints me, it's the lack of fresh seafood in our immediate area...I guess somehow I just assumed we'd be able to buy it on the street corner more or less...I guess I need to wade a bit further into the New England area for that though
