kennedy space centre closing?

Has anyone else heard that because the space shuttle is stopping the kennedy space centre may be closing????

the shuttles are all being retired yes, not sure about KSC closing tho, cant see it tbh

It's not a rumour I've heard and I hope it doesn't!

They do get a massive boost with the shuttle though and with budgets slashed too hmmmmmm

There is a rumour to that effect coming out of Merrit Island. It's soley a rumour at this point, with no authority behind it.

Could it close? Yes. Could it be funded by the feds as a museum? Yes.

Will we have to wait and see? Yes.

Yes, our friend that lives in Port St John right outside of Cocoa , gave us this bad news in March . Really hope they make it a museum of some sort .
Wish he had shared this with us before we went to SSR, we'd had made sure we visited .

I realize that the Shuttle Program is being shut down, but the ISS is still out there and will still have to be manned. Wonder how they plan to do that if KSC shuts down?

It's all a bit weird at the moment. Clearly the astronauts will be trained at star city, russia (sigh) so it would be POSSIBLE to keep it going without KSC.

I've asked various people about it and have got everything back from "yeah it'll all be gone by 2012" through "nah theyre just scaling back the visitor centre" to "are you mad? of course it won't be closed"

If I had to guess I'd say it's an option being looked at but nothing firm yet.

Personally I'm already beyond sad that the shuttle programme is going to be replaced by well, nothing very exciting. KSC closing would just be so terrible.

I know it's all about money but what is it about this century that has seen some of our best innovations cancelled and backwards steps being taken? Concorde mothballed seeing the end of civilian supersonic travel, then the shuttle ......

i think all that is so tragic really...all the nations should club together and carry it on. one day we might need to colonise somewhere else you never know. but without space exploration its all dead in the water

they better not close it, or just yet ive not bloody been there yet, planning on it next year even if i have to go on my own i will go
