      50's Prime Time Cafe PB&J Milkshake

      So my friends that just returned from Disney brought back the recipe for the 50's Prime Time Cafe PB&J Milkshake. We are getting together tomorrow afternoon to grill and we thought it might be fun to mix up a batch (and perhaps experiment w/ which alcohol mixes better with it )

      Here's the recipe:

      * 4 ounce Peanut Butter
      * 4 Ounce Grape Jelly
      * 72 Ounces Vanilla Ice Cream
      * 8 Ounces Milk
      * 8 Ounces Pure Vanilla Extract

      Place flavoring in blender. Add milk. Add ice cream. Blend until smooth and thick. Pour into your favorite glass. Makes 4 Portions

      Now, my only problem with this recipe is that it calls for EIGHT ounces of vanilla extract. Do you know how expensive that stuff is!?!?! I just priced it at my local grocery store, and 2 four ounce bottles are $9.99 EACH! That's $20 worth of ingredients right there, and that's not even including the ice cream, peanut butter and other ingredients!

      WOW!

      i really don't think you'd need that much Becca. If it's pure then it's very strong. Not sure how i feel about the shake tbh- i'd certainly try it though

      I would give a try, but I don't have high hopes. I tend to stick with the traditional milkshakes.

      We tried to make it one time and it didn't turn out so well. Still not sure what we did wrong.

      Re: 50's Prime Time Cafe PB&J Milkshake

      Well, I'm definitely a "purist" when it comes to milkshakes...no doubt. But I lost a bet once and tried this....I was hooked. I love it, and I have to have one every trip (it's my Mickey Bar or Dole Whip).

      Just not sure the recipe will live up to the real thing, but we'll see! (I figure if we put a little liquor in it, no one will mind!)

      I'm thinking of cheaping out and putting the imitation extract in it....thoughts?

      Re: 50's Prime Time Cafe PB&J Milkshake

      We used cheap ice cream and imitation vanilla extract....one of those made it not good.

      I was leary of the pb&j milkshake too. But it's good. Alysia always has to get one!

      No! Don't ever use imitation vanilla! It has NASTEH stuff in it!

      Use less. Or, for future use make your own. Get a vanilla bean (or two) and put it in high quality vodka or rum (you are aiming for tasteless alcohol) and let it steep (6 wks or so)... wicked stuff.

      OK, for the liquor, Fra Angelico would be great, or maybe some Baileys? Something to compliment the combination.

      I'm remembering a drink we once had at WDW called PB&J and it was all alcohol... all I remember was the Fra Angelico... hic!

      Re: 50's Prime Time Cafe PB&J Milkshake

      Funny how I KNEW you were going to say that

      Can I just say one more time how much I love our little "Rainbow Garden"

      We were having a drink last night and I was asking the 'tender there what he thought I should try in our milkshakes and I was still waxing nostalgic about the price of vanilla extract. He rolled his eyes at me (he does that a lot) and then went back to the kitchen to grab our brushetta. When he returned he dropped a little TO GO container in my purse and whispered "Compliments of Mary"

      Mary is the owner's wife and I adore her She peeked around the corner and said, "Let me know how they turn out, I expect a full report"

      I came home with at least 10 ounces of the "good stuff"

      Could it be a typo? I've never heard of that much vanilla in anything! If they used that much they would be charging $15. a shake!!!

      So....the winner is....Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur

      It was DELICIOUSLY smooth and creamy!

      Tinkfan, I do think you could be right - perhaps it *was* a typo. We took some MAJOR liberties with recipe itself and tinkered with it ( ) until we all gave it the thumbs up. Once we'd mastered the recipe to our liking, we realized we were only adding about 4 ounces, not the requisite 8. Frangelico was also yummy (thanks, Tink!). We didn't much care for the vanilla vodka or the grape pucker
