It appears that the iPad camera connector kit is starting to become available.

There's been some interesting discoveries about its capabilities beyond just importing photos. TidBits has discovered that the USB adapter in it works with most any USB headset, headphones, or microphone. This means that you'll probably be able to use your iPad to make Skype calls if you've got a USB headset. At Disney World? Want to call people at home? Got an Airport Express with you? Just plug it into a wall socket in your hotel room, plug the ethernet cable in your room into your Airport, connect with your iPad and call away!

Also, TUAW is reporting that the USB adapter will work with an external USB keyboard.

Meanwhile, for it's "intended" purpose, here's a video of how the photo import works. Oh, and by the way, besides supporting RAW from high-end cameras, iLounge notes that the iPad will import any captured photos at full 2048x1536 resolution, including the EXIF metadata from the original shot.

Here's the video:

Tom (... I gotta get this thing!)
