Re: Gulf coast oil spill near Florida?
It's in the gulf, but given the gulf stream, yes it is expected to be carried along the west coast of Florida, around the tip and north as far as Brevard County on the east coast.
Disney, Seaworld and Busch Gardens are standing by with volunteers ready to help rescue the animals and birds that are going to be effected. Right now it's expected to be a terrible disaster.

Re: Gulf coast oil spill near Florida?
BP is being criticized for not being prepared for something like this to happen from the go. They apparently misjudged the oil rig, and were not adequately prepared (obviously) for a major disaster should one occur.
The entire coast line is of course teeming with wildlife, and is the livelihood of many an oysterman, and fishermen.
Manatees, rays, 'gators, birds of all sorts, plants, mangroves, all are threatened. If they don't get the mess cleaned up prior to baby turtle season... you can only imagine what a horrible disaster that will be.
I haven't really followed the BP portion of this much, have been focused on the environmental impact, but there is a move to boycott BP in this country.
I've always supported them as they are gay friendly, even though the price on their advert signs is NOT what you pay at the pump when using your own debit card. But will have to look into what the factors actually are with regard to their complicity in this whole mess.
Of course, President Obama's support of drilling off the coast of Florida is getting heavily criticized now too (not that any of US liked it in the first place).Thank you for being a member of our Secrets Family!!! We are so very pleased to have you with us!

Re: Gulf coast oil spill near Florida?
Absolutely! I think every single legislator that voted to allow this, should be out there, and paying for a portion of a cleaning crew to be out there too. I'm serious.
It's long past time for legislators to take actual and complete responsibility for their choices.
Then those who supported those decisions need to be issued boots, gloves, and a bottle of cleaner and told to get to it.
It's a terrible thing to see a bird covered in that oil.
Terrible. I know I'd be useless at helping.
I'm too much of a weenie.

Re: Gulf coast oil spill near Florida?
No. It's actually predicted that it could be much worse.

For the latest information and trajectory maps, see the NOAA web site.
