Netbook in hand luggage?

As of today we own a netbook.

We want to take it to Florida with us so that every night we can empty all our SD cards on to it to store until we get home.

Having never carried anything more gadgety than a Gameboy on a plane what are the rules for netbook things. Size wise it's smaller than a sheet of A4 paper and hardly weighs anything.

I can`t see it being a problem Dawn.
After all, lap tops are allowed as carry on items. [I always take a Flash Trax with me for exactly that reason as you describe, and I`ve never had a problem in getting it on board with me.]

It won't be a problem the only question is whether you'll need to remove it from your luggage to go through security.

That can be awkward to tell beforehand since an ipad CAN go through in the carry on, as can an iphone, but a laptop can't.

Easiest thing if unsure is just to take it out anyway

Never knew that about laptops Keith.
Is this a relatively new ruling, as I have seen loads of folks using them on board a while back.
As you know though, it`s only fairly recently that we have a laptop so it`s never really been an issue in our household.

You can use them on board Terry it's just you have to remove them from carry on bags as you go through security and put them through on their own trays (although there are now some TSA approved bags which you can use and keep the laptops in those).

So it's not a problem, and you can use them

definitely take it as a carry on, you might be asked to turn it on as well, so make sure its charged

I took mine in my handbag last September. Going through security I simply popped it in a tray. I wasn't asked to turn it on at any point, in fact it caused no bother at all.

Handy tip: I put a little Piglet sticker on the underneath of it so I would recognise it instantly if it came through with someone else's.
