      St Augustine

I have decided for our December trip to have a little road trip to St, Augustine for a couple of days.

      Anyone been there before?

I watched an episode of Ghost Hunters in which they went there. One of their more creepy ones...it was at the local lighthouse. Given your past Diane, I would avoid the lighthouse.

Even though I wasn't there.....I don't forget things like that! I love that stuff, but would be totally scared stiff.

I felt for you, but remember laughing so hard at your story.

      Re: St Augustine

My DW and I spent a couple of days in St. Augustine back in 2003 when we were heading to Port Canaveral for our Disney Cruise.

It's a thoroughly enjoyable town to spend a couple of days in. Especially if you're into Spanish history and the conquest of the New World. We stayed at the Casa Monica hotel. It's located right in downtown St. Augustine within easy walking distance of the almost all the historical sights.

Some of the ghost tours can be great fun although most them of them are a bit campy sometimes.

The museums and historic sightseeing are enough to fill a good couple of days. The "Flagler's Legacy Tour" includes the "Hotel Ponce de Leon" which is now home to Flagler College. The "Lightner Museum" is worth a visit and is only about a block and a half from the hotel I mentioned right on Cordova Street. One of my all-time favorites though has to be the "Castillo de San Marcos". Built to guard St. Augustine and defend Spain's interests in the New World, it's a remarkable piece of architecture that has stood guarding St. Augustine for over 300 years. Paltry perhaps by European standards but quite remarkable over here.

Give St. Augustine a try. I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

Tom (... searching for the Fountain of Youth!)

PS - All this talk of Flagler refers to Henry Morrison Flagler, a nineteenth century tycoon and partner of John D. Rockefeller in the Standard Oil Company. Flagler is credited with creating Florida's east coast through his ownership of the Florida East Coast Railway which helped create towns and cities all along the east coast from Jacksonville in the north to the Florida Keys in the South.

      Tom (... again.)
