Re: Question for villa owners
Good thing you reminded them eh Dawn? They might have totally "forgotten".

Re: Question for villa owners
I can't believe any villa owner would let anyone stay in their home without a security deposit ( unless it's close friends or family)
To me it's just not worth the risk - the security deposit is fully refundable as long as the home is looked after - we have NEVER had to withold a security deposit.
People worry about a £200 deposit - imagine the worry of a house worth around $200k with what is to all intents and purposes, strangers staying in it, then you can see it from both sides .....
We love our house and want everyone who stays to love it and look after it too

Re: Question for villa owners
Unfortunately we have no choice as we have 2 mortgages so we have to rent out, therefore we have to keep the villa looking lovely, which in turn costs - and around we go

It's not about trust Brit it's about being careful that's all - no offence should be taken, we're all after the same thing, happy guests and happy owners

Re: Question for villa owners
I'm happy to pay a deposit because I'm staying in someone's home. We treated it like we were in our own house but accidents happen and it's the villa owner that has to sort that out.
We had a fantastic stay in that villa and the two issues we had - two hornets nest - were both sorted within 24 hours of us reporting them.
Spoke to villa owner on facebook last night. I'm happy she genuinely forgot. One of those things.

Re: Question for villa owners
Good that it's all worked out in a positive manner. I've never rented a villa, but can't honestly imagine not having to pay some sort of security deposit. I'd be afraid of the condition of the villa when I got there if no deposit were charged. People can be really hard on homes...

Totally agree Tink.
This is one of the reasons I won't take any Tour Operator bookings - I do everything myself and I speak to each guest, it helps them get to know me and we both feel more at ease with the booking.
Fingers crossed, we have been blessed with our guests, they have all looked after our home so well and many return time and again which I think speaks volumes

Re: Question for villa owners
That really is the only way to do it, Sandra but it's a huge load of work! We looked into buying a villa/rental here before we moved and just couldn't bring ourselves to do it. Now, of course it's a non-issue.

Re: Question for villa owners
ive just been lucky that the owners havent wanted one off me, id be happy to pay one of course i would. but you do hear stories of owners not sending the deps back to the renters. even when we had an AOA villa we never paid a deposit coz we wasnt asked for one.
i have always but always treated any villa with the utmost care as if it were mine, we go way above whats needed to be done when we leave like cleaning the place, we clean every day if theres any kind of mess we do it at home so why not someone elses, even moreso tbh as its not yours.
the last one we stayed in was malcs on here and he was the perfect owner couldnt of wished for better
