best resort for friends first visit?

I have some near and dear friends who are finally ready to go to Disney world YAY!

It'll be little Jack who'll be about 2.5yrs old, his dad, his dad's sister and his grandma who cant walk that far.

They really wanted an all in one hotel rather than a motel style place, close to the parks but travel city direct have recommended them to Old Key West :/ saying it's the newest resort and close to Epcot!

Now much as I like OKW, it's not an all in one hotel and it's not really close to EPCOT is it?

Theyre trying to get a balance between nice for the baby, not TOO Expensive, all in one hotel and convenient for the grandma to be able to navigate

Where would you recommend??

For me it would be port Orleans French quarter as nothing is far away and it's not huge like some of the others

What about the swan or the dolphin? They are lovely hotels and very close to epcot

Travel City Direct need to get their facts right seeing as OKW was the first DVC resort to have been built !
We have been members since 1992 and it was well up and running by then!
As you say Keith, it`s not really that close to Epcot....it`s closest main area is DTD.

I would opt for one of the Epcot resort hotels as there is plenty to see and do on the doorstep like the Boardwalk and Epcot, although it would involve a bit of a trek to MK.

I wouldn't send them to OKW for their first visit, as much as I love the place!

If they don't like Slowhand's idea, then have them check the rates at the MK resorts. Polynesian might be fun for the child, but again not the greatest for someone with limited mobility.

BLT would be good. Direct shot to MK, with monorail access to EPCOT, and busses to AK... boat from EPCOT to DHS. Or bus from BLT to DHS.

That would be pricey though as they'd need a two bedroom.

Moderates are very nice, and POR is great! Close to the action of DTD...

Values can be great fun though too! Depends truly on what they want to spend, doesn't it?

I would definitely suggest the Swan or Dolphin, and they usually run good deals.

I'd say Port Orleans French Quarter. It's smaller, so it's easy to get around, quieter and has a lovely pool area for children.
The grounds are excellent for sitting in to relax. The Grandma would probably enjoy the boat ride to DTD.
They would probably need 2 rooms though, so it might work out a bit pricey.

Thing is they really hate the "motel" style where the rooms open out into the open.

They prefer the european style Hotel (for want of a better description) where the rooms are all in one large hotel building and open out into a corridor if you see what I mean

Yes, I see what you mean. We are the complete opposite.

How about the Contemporary? Although I'm not sure that would suit the Grandma.
