Re: 3d TV - anyone got one yet?

Best carpe diem ever! We upgraded our TV to an LED one but decided not to get 3D just yet. Probably next year (Dad is always changing TVs! ) I too was shocked that the thickest part of the TV is about 2cms.

looked into it and still not going to go there....wasnt impressed with LED tv's on a 46" either, too fuzzy even on a 1700 quid set...gonna plump for plasma, still the best picture on a 50"" IMO

Not sure why Mick the quality on the one we saw was pin sharp, otherwise we wouldn't have gone for it.

      I think it's purely a preference thing

To my eyes, the lcds were pin sharp just like monitors are, and the leds improve on that with far better consistent illumination which makes the picture pop even more! So to my personal preference, the LED is by far the best technology out there.

I've been looking at them for months before christmas, and a couple of friends SCREAMED at me to look at plasma. After all, plasma is out of favour somewhat so you can now get larger plasmas sometimes more cheaply. So we went to a specialist place round here and started TV gazing. I found the best LED in the place, they found their best plasma.

Well I looked at their plasma next to my chosen LED and it just looked washed out and jittery to me. (it was a huge panasonic). The guy who owned the store was also a plasma fan, I had all three of them telling me that the plasma looked more cinematic and less computery :/

To me, the LED looked absolutely as pin sharp as I could imagine anything being, bright, great colours, rock steady and so on. They said nah it doesnt look natural (whatever that means).

The only slight thing I agreed on was that the panasonic plasma 3D had less "crosstalk" effect than the samsung LED I liked. It's a minor point IMHO but I could see that.

So yeah, I think it's just one of those to each his own things!

Re: 3d TV - anyone got one yet?

Agree the Plasma had better 3d, and I have a plasma at the moment as I always preferred them but I bought the samsung not based on the 3d performance but on the 2d performance in HD from a Harry Potter DVD, it was as perfect as I could imagine, the blacks were spot on.

I went with the intention of getting a plasma but this blew me away.

Doesn't there tend to be more problems with Plasma? Especially "burn-ins"?

Most have screen saver settings to ever so slightly wiggle the screen, the only problem really comes from channels that have the logo permanently on screen but I don't believe it's a major issue , we have had ours for 7 years and have no burn in at all

Really? We have a 50" LED now (or 47" perhaps? ) and the picture is not at all fuzzy. It's been fantastic so far and where as I'd always thought HD wasn't a HUGE improvement on standard definition on our old LCD set, with the LED set it totally feels like a major improvement

Now, when they work, I think they work pretty well but there's not much content right now to justify the premium and tbh I dont enjoy sitting there with the glasses on at the cinema :/ so dont anticipate doing it at home either. In fact, I really feel like it strains my eyes.

So hmmmmm. All that along with toshiba/sony and others saying it wont be as long as we think until they can do 3d without glasses just makes me wonder if it's worth paying the premium.

I bought the Samsung 50" plasma 3D tv, 2 sets of glasses, Call of Duty Black Ops game and 3 movies. the bundle was $850. It is an awesome tv. I think I have PTSD from looking at the black ops game in 3D

yeah i do...on normal viewing (non hd) around people it was fuzzy a king of sparkly fuzzy, really hard to describe but on hd it was a different story altogether and that was on a £1700 LG set...compared to a 50" panasonic plasma theirs no contest...they reckon the pioneer plasmas were good but now they have gone bust(the tv arm of the company)pansonics are best...i always thought that anyway tbh and blueray on a panasonic plasma just blew me away
