      LED TV

Does anyone know if LED TV actually better for electricity compared to LCD TV?

As we have 40inch LCD Tv at home and we are not sure if we should change to 40" LED tv to keep our household bills down?

It's probably not going to be one of the things that makes a huge different to your household bills to be honest.

There are two types of LED tv though, one uses edge LEDs to light the whole screen. These tend to use a little less power than LCD TVs do.

The better LEDs, in my opinion, are the ones that have LEDs in areas behind the screen and are therefore capable of turning off areas completely resulting in deeper blacks. Those tend to use more power than the LCDs and are almost using as much as plasmas.

So kinda depends what you're after

well that's quite a difference for sure! it sounds high for an LCD and low for the typical LED :/ I thought you were going to say old one 160 new one 120 or something

So yeah wow 67 is really impressive

      Re: LED TV

I know! Worked out that we would save at least £60 a year by watching LED tv with LCD upstairs in our bedroom.

We are popping to our local Currys (for research purpose not to buy of course *wink*)

      Re: LED TV

It's incredibly sad that I know all these models off by heart from spending so much time gawking at them.

The short answer, the samsung has the edge in my book but not 3d, the sony is no slouch and with the right deal, I'd have that one just as fast especially if they included the optional kit to make 3d work.

There's not much to say with the samsung. Does exactly what it says, looks great. I Dont much like the thing that adds in frames to make cinema action look more tvlike, but thats turnoffable and most people disagree with me anyway but great tv as long as you don't need/want 3d.

The sony is almost "last years model" with the 800s out now. the NX is their network range which means it has internet connectivity in it from day one. It's a nice to have but the new HX range is the 803 range and has 200hz instead of 100 for smoother action with less tearing on the screen. I could notice it but again, not everyone cares.

One thing to note with the sony is, unlike the samsung, this particular model uses an external 3d "bar". It sits in front of the tv at the bottom and is an extra cost unless bundled plus it's an extra "thing" just sitting there. It's how sony sync the 3d glasses with this set. Some people have been pretty upset when they found out. Once all setup, I loved the 3d on the hx713 and the 803. image/colour wise they're very very sony which you either like or you don't I do so I'm fine with them.

Don't be persuaded to get a bargain 703nx or anything, problems on that one.

I wasnt quite as impressed with that one BUT the guy at pcworld said that there was an offer on the LG where if you'd already subscribed to sky they'd refund 300 quid !

whether its still on or not I dont know

Anyway I would say I preferred the samsung to the lg
