WELL! good question

You can get youtube and stuff like that on it, so its a way of looking at all that content on the home tv rather than the computer

you can buy content from the apple store, so preview loads of new films and buy them immediately

To be honest, I use it most to stream content from my mac to the tv. So someone will give me a film or tv series or whatever and instead of sitting in front of the computer watching it, I can watch it on whatever tv has an apple tv attached.

I believe its good for streaming any content you have on your computers to your TV - its also good for renting movies etc as far as I am aware

The new box is crazy small! think last time I looked it was £99 but interested to hear from anyone who has it

Another question. Do you need MacBook or can you use it without as would be good for my dad. What about Internet connection as they still do not have Internet?

Ok so I have bought one today and I need a cable. Pc world wanted me to buy one for £70 but I said I would see how long we needed as I thought it was expensive. What type should I buy?

Depends on how you're going to hook it up and what the TV you're hooking up to supports.

Probably the best way would be HDMI. But that's fairly new and not all TV's in use support that. Sadly, mines one of them. Best to take a look at the Apple Support pages for the Apple TV. Choose the type of connection that works best in your situation. Then you can get the appropriate cables to support whatever method you choose.

If the TV supports it, I'd use HDMI. But that's just me.
