Office Word gone crazy

Ok, my office 2007 word program has suddenly gone crazy. I can't open any word programs, but if I open works task launcher I can open a word document then open a saved word file. Anyone know what has gone wrong suddenly? When I try to open the program it says something about a patch package not being able to be opened. When I do a windows update there are some patches that can not be installed, but this has been going on a for a while and haven't had problems until today.

I tried to uninstall office 2007, but it would not uninstall completely...so I tried to put the cd in to repair or reload and the cd wont run....

Please help!

Actually, it's security updates that wont install with the windows update.

If you tried to uninstall and only some it worked, then the part that was deleted might have been the control for you CD drive.

Did you try a system restore?
If you try this make sure you have hard copies of anything you've done in word (from after the date of the last save) so that you don't loose them!

The uninstall was a last resort. The cd wouldn't work before I did an uninstall.

More info...tried to individually update those security updates from microsoft...was told that there was a corruption in the installation database.

Dh has done a search in the Microsoft knowledge base and found the following article which may be of interest to you.

You receive an error message when you try to install or run an Office program: "This patch package could not be opened" or "The installation source for the product is not available"
