An AP is a good idea if you intend to spend several days in the parks at WDW throughout the year.
You get free parking [which in itself is quite expensive], along with various other perks such as a 10% discount at the World of Disney store at DTD for example.

Re: saving money on Disney resorts?

We've had some great discounts over the years... AAA tends to be the least, AP tend to be great but perhaps less of them and then we sometimes get PIN codes etc. Of course there are always other offers like free dining and so on which can save a load of money

Best to contact a disney specialist TA who can look into these things for you and will usually update you on discounts as they come out

Re: saving money on Disney resorts?

For a large family free dining, IMHO, can be a boon. For a couple however we do not find it cost effective because we normally save more on the discounted room, which you normally cannot get with the free dining.

Another advantage of having an AP is that you can purchase the Tables In Wonderland card which gets you 20% off of all food and drinks at most Table Service Restaurants and cocktail lounges(though they do add an automatic tip of 18%), as well as most food courts (POR is an exception) with no automatic tip added.
