Weather in May?

Is the weather in May/June similar to that of July/August? I am going to be there May till August, will shorts/t-shirts and one or two pairs of jeans (for night times) be OK as this is what I have taken when visiting in the height of the summer

You should be fine with that attire Josh.
May is one of our favourite times of the year to visit WDW and the humidity and heat is nowhere near as high as it is in August, it is also generally much drier.

Would you say the same sort of clothes you wear in July/August are fine for May? Worried about arriving and finding it slightly cold for shorts

Yep, it will certainly be warm enough for shorts /tee shirts etc. in May/June.

I have been both times and May is so much nicer. Less humidity but still very warm.

You won't need the jeans. Seriously.

May is warm and beautiful with the humidity creeping in. You'll be happy to leave in August. It's brutal.

Lightweight clothing of natural fibers is what you'll need. Bring enough footwear to change it up so when (not if) your feet get wet you'll have dry footwear to change into.

You'll need sunscreen of course, and bug repellent, but you can get both of those here.
