It does annoy me though. We've already paid for the data plans for the iphone, so tethering should be free as long as all we use is whats included in the data plan.

Thing is, they earn billions from selling us minutes/data which we dont use up and they simply dont want us using up what we've paid for.

Whilst it annoys me.. if I was in charge of making those sorts of decisions, I think I'd totally make the same one as them It's all about the money for big companies like that. I do wonder if future plans will include tethering as standard, though.
