Re: Wheres the best beach?
The only beaches that we have done outside of Orlando are Fernandina Beach north of Jacksonville on the Atlantic side and Anna Maria Island, outside of Sarasota on the Gulf Side.

Clearwater is very busy. I enjoyed Honeymoon Island which is north of Clearwater. It's more natural and not very busy.

Re: Wheres the best beach?
only ever been to the beach twice, once to cocoa beach the other clearwater, clearwater is my fave. cocoa is ok if you like body boarding etc as its a rougher sea being on the atlantic side. will be visiting more next trip and less of the parks to see what else is in florida

Re: Wheres the best beach?
DAYTONA BEACH!! LOL! (I live just south of DB)
Actually, the best part of Daytona Beach is down at Ponce Inlet ~7 miles south of SR 421 in Port Orange. It would be ~1 hr. 30 min. drive from the Disney area.
You are able to drive on most of the beach in Daytona (including Ponce Inlet), which is convenient so you don't have to drag all your stuff from a parking lot.
Ponce Inlet beach is quiet, good surfing by the jetty, nature trails through the dunes to hike around if you get bored laying out, FL's tallest lighthouse you can climb for $5. There are also a few great local restaurants. Down The Hatch and Inlet Harbour on the Halifax River side and Racing's North Turn on the beach.
In Daytona Beach Shores (directly at the end of Dunlawton - SR 421) it is also a driving beach and there is the Crabby Joe's pier you can eat at over the water.
I would steer clear of "The World's Most Famous Beach" in Daytona. For some reason the beach itself isn't as nice. But there are a lot more shops and restaurants up that way.Gwen
