Walt Disney Marathon Weekend 2012

It's finally arrived, it's time for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend 2012.

And about 3,000 young runners took part in the Mickey Mile today and will carry on celebrating at Marathon Kids Fest events on today and Saturday.

There are a number celebrities entered in the weekend of events at Walt Disney World Resort. All are running in the half marathon on Saturday along with four wounded veterans who are part of the Achilles Freedom Team, which supports disabled runners. They will be among the anticipated 56,000 runners, this will also include registered runners for the half marathon, 16,500 for the marathon and 8,000 for the Family Fiesta 5K featuring the Three Caballeros.

There will be about 6,000 runners in Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge which involves running the half marathon on Saturday and the full marathon on Sunday.

Hey Wendy, we were there for it and it looked pretty awesome. It was neat seeing the guest cheering for the runners. All manner of costumes worn by the runners. Lots of Mickey ears!

There was a lot of Disney magic along he way. Music, CM's in costume and characters too.

There was a display around mile marker 20 of CM's from Haunted Mansion with a small temporary cemetary where runners were seen stopping to chat it up.

Traffic was not all that adversely affected save the day of the half marathon. It ended I believe in Epcot and we chose to go there that day.. Trying to get a bus there from AKL was long!

It was really cool. I was happy to cheer them along. Must have been the most friendly marathon they have ever run. BTW...I would love to run something like that if not for the experience but for the really cool medals that all wore around the parks! The runners wore their race shirts and medals and they got lots of kudos!
