Inexpensive but nice.....
places to eat in New York. Any ideas?
We have breakfast included with our hotel room so we are looking for a light lunch and then an evening meal.
Or is it best to just find an eatery wherever you happen to be when you get hungry
Any places to avoid?

Not been to either myself, but Katz Deli and Carmine's Italian Restaurant I have heard are both very good.

Carmine's is quite good. Portions are served family style and are huge! http://carminesnyc.com/index.php
I like Juniors in Times Square. They have great cheesecake and a HUGE pastrami sandwich that is very nice http://www.juniorscheesecake.com/our.../times_square/

Re: Inexpensive but nice.....
Thanks guys, I'll check out the menus

Johnie....one thing I have to do (even though I'm not too keen on hotdogs) is to try a hotdog from a street vendor!
Seen it too many times in the movies

Ok I can help you on this one.... Where are you staying and what kind of food are you interested in eating. For hot dogs I would go to either Grays Papaya or Shake Shack... Stay away from the street vendor for food, trust me on that one.

Re: Inexpensive but nice.....
Aw, c'mon, Butterhead, dirty water dogs aren't THAT bad ;-)
It's an....experience!
Carmine's is where Jon proposed to me...and where i promptly knocked my glass of wine over
We always share and we ALWAYS take food home.
There's a pizza joint that Andrew LOVES, though the name is escaping me at the moment...Butter, maybe you can help? It's in the theatre district and used to be a church, I believe?
If you find yourself in Grand Central (either by transport, or just to visit) the "basement" has some wonderful food choices. Think: mall food court sort of thing.
