Oh no need to alter plan!
Fantasyland expansion scheduled for 6th December, would it be stupid to be in the park that day? Would be cool to be one of the first to see it and eat in the restaurant...... I guess we could just eat there.
What happens if they close the park and you have ADRs with the new system? Would you still get charged?

August 28th is being bandied around as the start for making reservations. Nothing OFFICIAL yet just the rumor.
I expect it will be crazy that day but I would go over there just to see it. I went into MK on Oct 1st for the anniversary last year. It was a madhouse but awesome as well. You guys know what I mean
If you were brand new to WDW, I might caution you to avoid it like the plague though

I would avoid it, I hate it when things are too busy, I panic.

December 6 is a Thursday during a week that is historically slow.
If I were there, especially from far away, I'd not miss the chance to attend. If you do have an ADR and the park is closed and you can't get in, then you will not be allowed in just because of the ADR. I can't imagine Disney being able to charge you for the ADR, but you'd need to call to be sure it wasn't going to happen.
The park does not close that easily. Usually only on Christmas, sometimes NYE, and sometimes July 4, so I wouldn't really worry about that.
Disney's "grand openings" can end up being a bit soft, too. I've seen that happen a number of times with other long anticipated events.
So, all that to say, give it a shot and have a wonderful time! You only live once, eh?

I am going to go and also going to try and get a reservation at the restaurant that day! It was only scifi diner anyway.
